Motorcycle Brake PadsWhen it comes to motorcycles, a lot of people worry about their 0-60 MPH times, but not their 60-0 MPH times. And we don’t blame them, speeding up is a lot more exciting than slowing down; but that doesn’t mean that it’s more important. Here at Dennis kirk, we are all too aware that the quality of your brakes matters, and that the easiest way to increase brake performance is by starting at the brake pads. That’s why we’ve compiled this massive inventory of brake pads, to make sure that we have something for everyone.
When picking out new brake pads, there are three main directions, or materials, you can choose from. These are organic, semi-metallic, and sintered.
Organic brake pads are made of varying blends of rubber, glass and Kevlar materials. These brakes are soft, quiet, and easy on the wallet. Though, they do have their shortcomings; they are less responsive than other types of brakes and they have a shorter service life, especially with aggressive use.
Semi-metallic brake pads were made as riders wanted more out of their brake pads. They incorporate metallic material into the brake pad, and these brakes are more responsive than regular organic pads. They have a longer service life and they are more responsive, but they are also harder on the brake rotor.
Sintered brakes are for those looking for racing level performance; they are the most responsive brakes available today. They aren’t perfect though. They are the most expensive option on the market and they will wear on brake rotors even more than their semi-metallic counterpart.
When it comes to picking a brake pad, there is no right or wrong option. There is simply an option that will work best for you. We hope that we have helped you decide which type of pad you are looking for!
