Motorcycle Trunks & Top Cases
When you want ample storage with ease of access, it’s hard to beat motorcycle trunks and top cases. Trunks and top cases are mounted above the rear fender, often on top of the rear luggage rack. Offered in both hard and soft materials, these pieces of luggage are very versatile and a great option to add storage space to any type of motorcycle. Motorcycle trunks and top cases are most often associated with ADV and Touring bikes, but they can be added to just about any type of motorcycle.
One of the biggest benefits of motorcycle trunks is their mounting location. Located right above the rear wheel is great for balance. All the weight is directly above the centerline of the motorcycle. This location also allows for easy access. Your luggage can be accessed without the need to bend over or dig through deep and narrow bags. This location also allows for certain trunks to be used as backrests.
Motorcycle trunks are a great piece of luggage to keep gear that you need quick access to. rain gear and tool kits are great options to keep in top cases. Many trunks are also able to hold one or two helmets. This is a great option to have when you park your motorcycle and don’t want to bring your helmet inside. Many of the top trunks are lockable to keep all your belongings safe while you’re away from the bike.
Hard motorcycle trunks offer sturdy construction, are lockable, and often are also waterproof. They work to guard against both theft and adverse weather conditions. Many of these cases can take quite the beating and are the best choice if security is your number one consideration. Hard sided trunks are made from durable aluminum, thermoplastic, or even fiberglass. Some plastic top cases include brake light kits to help boost the visibility of your motorcycle.
Mounting motorcycle trunks is often fairly simple, especially if your motorcycle already has a rear luggage rack. Many of the trunks include a mounting plate that attaches to the luggage rack. The trunk is then attached to the mounting plate. If your motorcycle is not equipped with a rear luggage rack, you will need to install one as well.
