Harley Heat Shields, Pipe Guards & Exhaust Wrap
Your Harley’s exhaust creates heat. To protect other components and your legs from the heat, you can look to heat shields and exhaust wraps. Each one can get the job done, but they do have their advantages and disadvantages.
Harley heat shields are the old standard. Heat shields do a pretty good job of dissipating the heat between the exhaust and your legs. The air between the shield and pipe acts as an insulator. Heat shields are great for riders who want to keep the metallic look of their pipes. It can also be an accent piece when different finishes are used.
Exhaust wraps have their fans and certainly their detractors. Wraps will offer some protection from heat and may even save your skin if you happen to bump the pipe. The original purpose of wraps was to add performance. The thought is that they insulate the pipes, which increases the heat and makes scavenging better. The actual amount of performance gain really depends on how tuned your motorcycle is. A stock engine may not see a noticeable benefit. Exhaust wraps became popular in part because of their cosmetic appeal. The downside to exhaust wraps is that they can speed up the wear on your pipes.
Whatever form of exhaust protection you prefer, you will find what you need at Dennis Kirk. We keep a large selection in stock and ready to ship to you the same day that you order. When your order is over $89, it ships free!
