When it comes to studs, bigger is not always better. There is a certain sweet spot that you should be aiming for, and that sweet spot is dependent on the track that you’re running. More specifically, it’s based on lug size. If your studs are too short, they’ll be useless. If they are too long, they might bend or break. Generally speaking, you’ll want a stud that is ¼ inch to ⅜ inch longer than you lug height. ¼ inch would be best for intermediate riders, while ⅜ inch would be better for the most aggressive of riders.
