In the early 70’s, Suzuki introduced a two-stroke sport touring motorcycle line dubbed the GT. Standing for Grand Tourismo, the Suzuki GT bikes were designed to get riders and possibly a passenger around the countryside with speed and good handling. The first line of GT’s included the three cylinder 380cc, 550cc and the 750cc bikes. They later included the twin 250cc, 185cc, 185cc and 500cc sizes. As Suzuki’s most performance oriented bikes at the time, the GT bikes were used for racing. The water-cooled GT750 was the first liquid cooled Japanese motor, making it a significant milestone in motorcycle development. This made the bike a bit heavier than its competition and is also the origin of its popular nickname, the “water buffalo”.

Though the Suzuki GT bikes did not last long, they represented a significant step in advancement for Suzuki motorcycles.
