Shop The Best ATV Winches
There are a lot of factors to consider when buying an ATV winch. So, we can understand if you are feeling slightly uncertain as you sift through our rather large selection of winches. We will do our best to shed some light on some of the variables that you should consider as you choose the right winch for you.
The first step is simply to know what you are buying for. The larger the machine, the larger the winch you will need. A good place to start is by identifying your gross vehicle weight. This means including any drivers, passengers, or cargo you might be carrying. Obviously, this will only be an estimate. Once you have this number, you can multiply it by 1.5. This will give you the minimum rated line pull that you will want. Rated line pull is simply the amount of weight that your winch can safely pull. Keep in mind that this is a minimum, not necessarily the size that you want.
Now that you have identified exactly how strong your winch needs to be, the process becomes a lot easier. As you pick a size, stay on the safe side and pick a winch that is well above this minimum you’ve calculated, especially if you might find yourself stuck in wetlands relying on the winch to pull you out.
Once you’ve identified the size you’ll need, there are a couple other factors to consider. You can choose between either wire rope or synthetic rope. Synthetic rope is generally stronger and easier to work with, but it is more prone to damage from sharp objects. Which option you choose will depend on what you will be using the winch for. The length of the rope is also a variable. 50 feet of rope is fairly standard, but we do have shorter options if you feel it might better fit your needs.
We hope that after considering these factors you’ll feel more confident as you continue your search and we look forward to sending you your ATV winch as soon as we can.
