Dirt Bike Piston Kits & Rings
More than in any other powersport, dirt bike pistons take a beating. The high revs, torque to weight and constant abuse really puts them through the paces. The harder you push your bike, the more often you will need to do a top-end refresh with either a new piston kit or at the very least, piston rings. Hardcore racers should swap out their pistons with at most 20 hours on them. The average rider can put about three times as much time on theirs, but it should be looked into at some point.
When replacing your dirt bike pistons, there are a few things to consider. One is whether you should choose a forged, cast or semi-forged piston. Cast pistons are a good choice for the average rider. They are more cost efficient, because they are easier to produce. A forged piston, however, if much stronger and can withstand much more heat and stress. A semi-forged offers the lightweight advantages of cast with some of the strength aspects of a forged.
