Linking the engine to the rear wheel, your dirt bike’s drive chain plays an important role. Yet even though the chain is so critical, it if often overlooked until it is too late. Chains will stretch as they wear and can create too much slack to make up for in adjusters. When they stretch, they can also wear out the sprockets faster because the teeth and chain are not meeting the way they should. To get the best performance from your bike and to prevent being stranded on the trail, it’s important to routinely replace your worn out drive chain with one that matches your style of riding.

Choosing the right dirt bike chain depends on how you use your bike. For motocross, a non-sealed chain can be best because it will be equipped to handle the rough demands that the on-off power of MX riding presents, yet is lighter than a sealed chain. Because of the high demands in MX, chains and sprockets need to be changed out more often. Strength is valued over longevity. O-ring or sealed chains are more preferred for trail and enduro riding because they tend to last longer with less maintenance.
