H-D chopped fender edge light kit on a Sportster Iron 1200
I’ve always really liked the chopped tail look. But the space between the two turn-signal-integrated brake lights on modern Sportsters with chopped fenders can use extra lighting in my opinion.
Harley’s chopped fender edge light kit fits that space under the rear fender perfectly, adding a row of LED lights that act as running lights and brake lights. I wish they were a lot brighter, but for the money and ease of installation, this kit is perfect for the do-it-yourselfer who wants a true plug-and-play solution.
Did I mention how easy this installation is? Take it from someone who routinely installs things twice—once incorrectly, then again to fix her mistakes—installing this fender edge light kit was a breeze. You should be able to complete this project in a half hour if you take your time.

STEP 1
With the bike well supported, remove the seat and left side cover and pull the main fuse.

STEP 2
Use soapy water to thoroughly clean the underside of the fender where the light will be mounted. Clean the inside left underside of the fender as well. Rinse and allow it to dry. Then use a 50/50 mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol to prep the surface where the light will be mounted.

STEP 3
Test fit the light by holding it up to the edge of the fender. Then peel off the three adhesive pad liners on the fender edge light.

STEP 4
Press each adhesive pad firmly in place.

STEP 5
Harley includes this reflector that can be adhered to the fender edge light, but I think it’s ugly, so I’m skipping this step.

STEP 6
You’ll find the rear light wiring under the seat. Disconnect the rear light harness (the one with the two black wires) from the main wire harness.

STEP 7
Connect the provided interconnect harness to the main lighting harness.

STEP 8
Connect the interconnect harness to the rear light harness.

STEP 9
Route the wiring from the fender light on the left side of the fender to emerge through the hole in the front of the fender.

STEP 10
Secure the wiring under the fender with the included adhesive wire clips.

STEP 11
Run the wiring under the frame to the seat pan area (where the interconnect harness is). Then insert the wires and terminals to the provided pin housing. The blue goes into cavity 1, red/yellow goes into cavity 2, and black goes into cavity 3.

STEP 12
Connect the light assembly harness to the interconnect harness’s three-pin connector.

STEP 13
Reinstall the main fuse and test the lights. With the key in the ignition position, all the rear lighting should light up. Use cable ties to secure the wiring under the seat.

STEP 14
The brake lights are on to show the difference between the turn signal lighting and the fender light’s illumination.

STEP 15
The brake lights are on to show the difference between the turn signal lighting and the fender light’s illumination.
