With an economy that is not sure what it wants to do, it is nice to hear that certain industries are up, and doing better, especially when it is an area that we all love, like motorcycles. According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, overall sales of motorcycles for the year 2012 were up 2.6% from the year before. That includes rises in all four segments, scooter, dual purpose, off road and highway motorcycles, something that has not happened since the year 2002! Not too surprisingly scooters led the pack with an increase of 7.7%, followed by dual purpose at 7.4%. Although most in the industry anticipated sales to be better for 2012, many were pleasantly surprised to see it even higher than they expected. Total motorcycle sales were 452,386, still a far cry from the 1.1 million that were sold in 2006, but we will take any increase we can get. Here’s to 2013! May it continue to pull us upward!
