February is quickly drawing to a close, and although that means we are getting closer to spring riding weather, the bigger news is that the 70th Annual Daytona Bike Week is almost here! Held in Daytona Beach, Florida, this year’s rally will be held from March 4 through March 13, 2011. Approximately 500,000 people attend the rally, which puts it in contention with Sturgis Bike Week in South Dakota and the nation’s most popular motorcycle rally. Festivities this year will include bike races, concerts, parties, and street festivals.
The inaugural running of the Daytona 200 back on January 24, 1937 marks when Daytona Bike Week first became a tradition. The race took a brief hiatus from 1942-1947 due to World War II, but bikers still attended, gathering informally until the rally soon returned bigger than ever. Today, hundreds of thousands of bikers from all over the world attend, making Daytona Bike Week one legendary event.
