At the heart of your snowmobile engine is the piston. With tight tolerances needed for the needed compression, any imperfections in your snowmobile piston can either lead to poor running, not running at all or even catastrophic failure of the engine. With most sleds being two-strokes, top-end rebuilds are fairly common, it’s just the nature of the beast. If you own a sled long enough, you will most likely need to replace the pistons or at the very least re-ring them. When doing so, you need to have access to quality pistons that you can trust. Brands like Wiseco, Parts Unlimited, and Pro X all produce options that are just as good, if not better than stock.

Damage isn’t the only reason to replace a piston, though. Installing an oversized or big bore piston in your sled will boost the displacement and ultimately result in more power. And if you have done some mods to your sled, you should look into installing a piston that is able to handle the higher revs and is able to dissipate heat better.
