2016 Indian Scout Sixty

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

I originally wanted to do an old school kind of chopper look to it. No chrome with black and red. A red skull war bonnet with blood puking out of his mouth. I was not feeling that latter and had a much different vision.

What motivated you to start your project?

I bought the bike when it was damaged. I wanted to bring it back to life and with a bad boy attitude. I originally found it tucked away in a warehouse. Nobody wanted it. It was a Las Vegas demo bike that was wrecked. Alot of cosmetic damages. Handle bars bent, head light busted, foot controls broken, shocks broken, tank scratches and dented. I was moving bikes around and I came across something hidden. I had to have this bike and the scout immediately spoke to me with it’s last breath.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I am very fortunate that I work with people that are very talented and have a variety of skill sets.  One guy in particular owns a foundry. The forward foot shift control lever was broken. My vision was taking a wrench and fordging it to the shape and using it as the foot control. Naturally I had to do the same for the brake foot control. That gave me the idea to go with a steampunk black and brass gear theme.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of knowing that I took a bike that was damaged, nobody wanted this bike. With my imagination I was able to use resources that we’re available to me that were laying around the garage.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

I have been complimented and told that she looks sick! A good sick. People have said they would stand there and look at it and continue to find other cool details. The hand grenade turn signals tend to catch the eyes. Then the explorer inside investigates the rest of the bike.

Money spent: 1200
Engine: Stock Indian 999 cc

Exhaust: Straight pipes with exhaust wraps
Transmission: 5 speed transmission
Frame: Stock Indian frame

Finish – Paint: Rattle can 4 coats of matte black. War bonnet skull tank logo was painted using stencil and a gold rattle can job. Pin stripes were a gold rattle can and I used my fingers to dab the paint to give it more of a weathered worn look. To give it the weathered worn look I did not clear coat and left it exposed to the rain for 4 days.I did a light wet sand and did 3 coats of matte clear coat (rattle can).
Accessories: The head light bucket is from 2001 V92C Victory. I moved the speedo forward from the upper triple mount to the integrated victory speedo headlight. 14 inch ape hangers. I had to use 7/8 for the hand controls. The shift linkage rod has all the dice you need for that Vegas run! I used black brass knuckles for the forward foot pegs. The rear running light is from the Indian touring models, the front fender war bonnet light. The turn signals are dummy hand grenades converted to turn signals. Finally on the belt guard I JB welded a bunch of 5.56 bullets to the belt guard. No live rounds were used in the build of this bike. I finished off the belt guard with a Wounded Warriors Project challenge coin.
