2003 Harley Softail std

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

To remake something that could’ve been done before, would most certainly be recognizable but is rarely ever seen.

What motivated you to start your project?

In short, my father inspired this build. My father passed from a gritty bought with cancer in early 2023; he was 76yo. I’m a few months in my 35th year on the sphere but the gravel in my gut helps me appreciate a bluer collar time. The 43 year age gap, and the fact I’m the baby of his 6 kids, made for a unique relationship over the years. We lost mom in 2012, that was the first blow I saw take the man’s breath. Over the years we grew close crawling through the mud, the blood and the beer. His story wasn’t easy, but it was his. And he fought like hell to the bitter end of his tall tale.

I wanted something rugged and pure. Something there’s a lot of but still room to stand out. I wanted GRIT with a splash of modern flare but something less forgiving to make me pay for the mistakes along the way. I wanted to build a chopper. A carbureted, gas spittin, tree bustin, toxic ass springer front end… I built a 2003 Anniversary Softail STD in Gunmetal Pearl

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

The timeless touches; deleted front fender (love the rain days!), horn, chain guard, signals, added clean grips and pegs (shifter now roadside repair 9/16 long sock bolted in brass and a little red tite) 30” sissy bar, la Perra K & Q, true duals, slammed suspension and of course the chrome +4 springer

…ever evolving as several upgrades or style points come with the breakdowns.

What are you most proud of?

Keepin the tires bald and the motor hot. I’ve worked on this bike on the side of the road as much as I have in my garage. Towed one time when my locknut came off my clutch adjuster and went dancing in the primary. The chain bit and snapped all to hell. It was a Sunday and I had no way to get the chain so I a brother came I regretfully strapped her down.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

“Nice bike. Is that a sportser?!”
