1974 Norton Commando 850

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Bringing a old barn find and giving it a new life.

What motivated you to start your project?

Always had an interest in British motorcycles, but I raced AMA motocross for many years and never had time to pursue finding and restoring one. After a bad accident in 2010 I was unable to race motocross. After motocross I needed a new hobby and finding and restoring a Norton was it.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

Changing it from a high ride to a roadster.

What are you most proud of?

The time spent with my oldest son working on the bike and teaching him about mechanics.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

They love it, then ask what a Norton is.

I know well what a Norton is .. I had a 73 750 back when, it’s a great bike well balanced and quick. Unfortunately it came to an end on top of the Smoky Mountains buried in the front bumper of a 1974 Ford. The driver make a turn at the last second right in front of me. You have done an excellent job in the restoration of your bike.
