1950 Harley-Davidson FL

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Make it into a reliable and eye catching “old school” bobber. I couldn’t afford, nor have the knowledge to restore it into an OEM type factory bike. It starts easy (1-3 kicks) and runs strong.

What motivated you to start your project?

Bought a basket case 1950 Panhead during high school. Rebuilt engine and scrounged parts to build it into a decent “rider” bike. Had to sell it for money to attend my first year of college…always wished I still had it as the years went by. So, bought another 1950 basket case at SoCal Swapmeet and turned it into what you see.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I painted the gas tanks and fender to include body work, prep, colors, and style. In my home made paint “booth”. Changed it to 12v system to include all wiring and components.

What are you most proud of?

The stance of frame, wheels and springer front end…it sits perfectly and rides like a dream.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

They love the look and the fact it’s 71 years old. Secondly, they comment on hand shift and foot clutch…they are mesmerized that the shifter is on the gas tank!
