After 2020 essentially shut down travel and motorcycle rallies, coming into 2021 I was itching to do the most epic Fix My Hog Ride and Rally yet. We had already done the Key’s, we had already done the Rockies, we had already done the Bayou, which were all amazing, but there was only one way I could think that would top all of them—riding across the country. When it came down to motorcycle selection, I have ridden the new monoshock Heritages extensively on many trips and the Low Rider and Road King as well, but for a trip of this epic proportion there was only one bike I really wanted to do it on, my 2015 Sportster. Now I realized that riding a Sportster across the country wasn’t exactly the first choice on top of the list of comfort. And that’s where Dennis Kirk stepped in with an awesome pair of narrow Z bars to keep my profile thin to cut wind, and a much cushier seat than the slim chopper style seat that I had on previously.

As far as the route goes, I had always wanted to ride my Harley to Milwaukee and swing by the Juneau factory, the site of the original shed, and the Museum. A “Take Your Harley Home” ride theme. After that, the Tail of the Dragon up in the Great Smoky Mountains as well as visiting Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum were high up on my list as a motorcycle fanatic. Lastly, after spending so much time riding landlocked, I have always enjoyed riding with an ocean view and the A1A on the east coast of Florida is perfect for that. With those main stops, that pretty much outlined my route in which I found small towns in-between to visit.
All-in-all, the ride was the most epic Ride and Rally Fix My Hog has done thus far. Crossing the country on your own bike, building that bond between yourself and your motorcycle, riding legendary roads, and stopping at legendary places. What more can you ask for? I’m not sure where we’re headed next, but I’ll get to thinking while you catch up on the videos of me taking my Sportster across the United States while staying comfy courtesy of Dennis Kirk.
