On Thursday, July 14, we ran a live Tech Q&A on our Facebook page where our fans could post their questions to our Wall and our Tech team would respond to them. It actually turned out to be pretty successful, so rest assured we’ll do them again. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for posted schedules!

In case you missed the first one, here’s just a few of the questions that were asked and answered as an example of what you can expect during upcoming sessions!
Q: Reading TONS of oil posts on HDForums, so confused at this point! Any brand/dyno/synthetic recommendations for a TC96 motor?
A: Use synthetic oil and you can find it on our site here: LINK.
Q: When checking tire air pressure, does one go by the bike’s frame sticker to get the proper PSI or should one go by the recommendation that’s on the side of the tire itself?
A: You should use the recommendation on the tire itself.
Q: Do you have or can you get rotors/stators for a Yamaha XS650 point fired twins?
A: We don’t actually have them, and we’re unfortunately unable to get them, but check www.rickselectrics.com – they might be able to help you!
Q: Is it safe to remove the baffles from the mufflers (hole saw modification) on a 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750? Will it mean carb adjustments or jet replacements?
A: It is safe to remove the baffles, but you will need to rejet the carburetor to make it run properly.
Q: I have a 2002 XC SP. I’ve been running regular gas and regular oil. Can that hurt my snowmobile?
A: The oil will plug up the exhaust valve, so you should be running synthetic injector oil.
Q: Hello, I own a 2008 R6. I’m approaching 12,000 miles, and the manual suggests a tune-up at that mileage. What is involved with a tune-up? I am told that 12,000 miles is a lot for that type of bike. Can you explain?
A: A tune-up is basically just spark plugs and checking the valves for proper clearance. As for the mileage, 12,000 isn’t that much. As always, proper maintenance helps every bike run longer!
Q: I’m looking at getting a Long Boy front fender for my 2009 Night Train. Is the width I am looking for 4.25”?
A: Yep, you got it!
Q: Two questions, I have a 1997 Kawi 1500 Vulcan that will not stay charged. Replaced battery, cleaned all terminals, and no shorts. Any ideas? Second question, why is the engine on this Kawi so noisy?
A: For the charging, you may need to test the stator and the rectifier/regulator. If the engine noise is abnormally loud, you may want to take it to a shop and have it checked out.
Q: Is there any improvement on a 2008 Harley Ultra if you change header pipes to a Vance and Hines True Duals? I’m looking for a little more power and less heat coming from the right side with that 2-1-2 setup that comes stock.
A: Yes, you will see some improvement over the stock head pipes, and it will also cut down on some of the heat coming off of that rear cylinder.
