DK Interviews Matt Hamm from FXR Racing

FXR Interview

As one of the heavy hitters in the snowmobile and offroad apparel and gear world, FXR Racing has become a fixture at Hay Days, the official start to winter. It’s here where brands come to show off and sell their latest and greatest products. We got a chance to catch up with FXR’s head designer Matt Hamm to discuss what Hay Days means to them and what we can expect to see from FXR. Check out the video below to see what Matt had to say.

Transcript Below:

Chad: What up DK fam. We’re here at the FXR booth and I’m with Matt Hamm. Matt how are you loving Hay Days right now?

Matt: You know what? I haven’t been to Hay Days in a few years.

Chad: Yeah.

Matt: Big crowd this year. It’s great weather. You know where everything’s happening in the middle. It’s like wicked energy and it’s like one of the best starts of the season that I think we’ve had in a long time.

Chad: Oh man being across from the pit. What kind of like… that’s just got to bring an awesome crowd over here.

Matt: We’re just lucky that the wind’s going in the other direction.  We’ll let the dust go the other way.  It was pretty windy setting up the other day, everything blowing around. It’s wicked being around just the center of it all and whatever it’s just awesome to be here.

Chad: Center of it all, that’s a good point. I mean you guys have a heck of a footprint here at Hay Days. It’s one of the biggest booths that there is on site. What’s the crowd been like so far?

Matt: You know, big crowd. Everyone’s pretty excited. Like everyone kind of thinks it’s going to be a good winter you know, and people are just excited to get geared up, get the stuff they need to get ready when the snow flies.

Chad: Sure, well let’s talk about that a little bit. Let’s back up and just, you know, real quick who is FXR and why is Hay Days so big for you guys?

Matt: You know, this is kind of like our home and our heart right here in the Midwest, right. FXR is kind of Manitoba and Minnesota based company. So, this is our home base. This is where, you know, Snocross is. And racing, that’s kind of the start and at the heart of everything that FXR is, right. Like Factory Extreme Racer, right. That whole mentality of like racing and pushing yourself and having the equipment that’s good enough for you to push your limits. That’s what’s kind of driven almost everything that we do at FXR. Push our product to be as good for anything those customers are going to do. We want to have something that fits them right to do what they want to do and what they love to do.

Chad: Speaking of that I mean you guys really recognized that there was a nice little hole in the fishing section. For ice fishing, you guys have gone full bore into that. How’s that been for you?

Matt: We’re, you know what, it’s doing really really good. I mean, I had no idea myself even just like how big of an industry and a sport it is, especially in this area. But really all in North America right and we know our customer, our ethics of our customer and there is a big crossover into, whether it’s summer or winter fishing. So Ice Pro and Pro Fish and everything we’re doing is a great product segment and it’s really complemented what we do for our customers that, you know, use our products in the winter and now they can use more of our different types of products to do more what they really want to do.

Chad: Absolutely. Yeah, it’s fantastic. Well hey, to finish us out here real quick. What is your favorite thing about being at Hay Days? It’s been a minute since you’ve been here so what’s just been like, “wow I’ve missed this.”

Matt: You know what? You just feel like you’re at home for a snowmobile central. You’re back part of that community and that big, like overall bigger snowmobile community that we’re all in. And it’s just awesome to see because everyone’s a little, I want to say nervous, but like with inflation and everything, nobody quite knows what to expect going forward. When you come out here and it’s a wicked crowd and everybody’s amped up and it just kind of feels like, all right we got this, you know. Like, snowmobiles, we got this, you know. We don’t need to worry. So that’s been the best thing for sure.

Chad: Right on man. Well, hey it’s a pleasure meeting you and talking to you. Thanks for joining us.
