how to measure

Width is measured in a straight line from the furthest point on one sidewall, across the tread, to the furthest point on the opposite sidewall.

The aspect ratio is the height of the tire sidewall. A smaller number means a lower profile, and the height-to-width ratio is shown as a percent.

Rim diameter is the diameter of the rim/wheel on which the tire will be mounted, in inches.

Motorcycle Rim Strips & Tubes

Your tube tires are only as good as the motorcycle tubes that you use inside of them. When you match the correct tube for your style of bike and style riding, you will see excellent results. The wrong tube can lead to a flat tire, leaving you stranded on the side of the road. Thin tubes are fine for light weight bikes that aren’t being ridden in the most extreme conditions. They also weigh less and will keep your bike lighter. Heavy duty tubes are a better choice for heavier bikes and hardcore offroad riders because they can hold up to a lot more abuse. They are a bit heavier, but will greatly decrease the likelihood of getting a flat.

When choosing a motorcycle tire tube, it’s important that you choose the correct size and valve stem configuration. If you install a tube that is too large, it can pinch and create a weak point where it will be more likely to fail. Valve stems come in a variety of styles, so you need to be sure that you choose the one that matches your wheel. Valve stem configurations range from straight out of the side to right angled stems coming out of the middle. Be sure to check the specs to know which type of tube you are choosing. Using a high quality rim strip will further protect your tube from being punctured and will decrease your chances of getting a flat.
