1993 Yamaha Phazer 2

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

engine modification and a better track/suspension it now sports a Polaris extra 12 skid withe homemade extensions 136” paddle track i was always curious on the 12hp gain with a performance pipe such a good hp gain i also put a set of flat slid carbs on it from a yamaha 600 engine oh and i pulled the fan and shrouding off cut the hood open made it a free air more hp gains that fan must take some power to move cause after i pulled the fan off there was a noticable gain in power because i changed it to a free air i got a double needle single cylinder head temp gauge from a air plane with the under spark plug ring probes to keep an eye on those cylinder head temps fun stuff but you can only get so much out of a 480 fan engine thats why i have my second phazer build called phazer KAITEN Japanese for heaven shaker lol i love iti also made a Yamaha Exciter into a four wheeler how did i keep the engine cool pretty simple i hung a couple heater cores off the rear where the snow flap was never had it over heat

What motivated you to start your project?

always loved that phazer style bought a new one from Pats motorsports in 1993 now that im a bit older with some years behind me collecting every snowmobile i can most are parts sleds i can mix match engines skids from all manufacturers im almost done with another phazer i put a red head 700 triple in out of a Vmax that has 1200 miles on it was in a police chase it ended up wedged under a police suv then the guy i got if from was towing it from where he bought it from on a trailer pulled by a tractor he had a few to many drinks drove into the ditch on the side of the road rolled the tractor over trailer and sled followed cops showed up because of all this he had the sled for sale so he could pay fines from the tractor roll over thats when i saw his ad and bought the sled remember it was a vmax 700 parts sled from the police chase it was smashed up pretty good but the engine just needed a thermostat housing its in my phazer and running

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the sled?

the extra 12 skid with extensions and the new look i gave it i took the windshield pod assembly off replaced it with a head light from a 07 Phazer made a wind blocker i guess you could call it its not quit a windshield wait windshield wind blocker same thing lol sawed my own seat cover and handle bar riser cover used a 4” tach off a Arctic Cat and the CHT gauge i sawed my own gauge holder

What are you most proud of?

my kids

What do other people say about your snowmobile?

Specifics

Classification: Mild
Make, Model & Year: 1993 Yamaha Phazer 2
Fondly known as: phazer 3
Time spent: no idea 2nd season on it
Snowmobile cost: cost? i paid 300 for it plus 2 yamaha exciter 570s
Money spent: pipe was 300 vforce 3 valves 260 CHT sensors /gauge 200
Engine: 480 stock except the DG expansion chamber exhaust Vforce3 valves flat slide carbs from a 600 Yamaha engine also took the fan and shrouding off to make it a free air trying to fin hp gains where i can
Intake: carbureted
Exhaust: DG pipe 12hp gain
Drivetrain: drive clutch is a Comet 102c driven clutch is off a exciter 2 136” paddle track Polaris extra 12 skid homemade extensions chain sprockets are stock
Tunnel/Chassis Modifications: added a tunnel extension for the longer 126” track i cut the tunnel off a Yamaha SRV and riveted it on also made some tunnel foot well stiffeners
Suspension: i took the sag in out of the front struts it makes for a stiff ride with bumps but adds almost two inches of travel to the front end. Polaris extra 12 with homemade extensions had to relocate only the rear mounting hole surprisingly the suspension works really well with the front of the skid in the original mounting holes
Brakes: Stock
Finish – Paint: sled is red white just changed the hood with a black one that isnt in good shape sense i was going to cut a opening it it to feed the engine air sense i turned it into a free air
Accessories: lighting now comes from a head light assembly out of a 07 Phazer i also integrated a tail light into the rear of the homemade seat
