1993 Ski-doo Mach 1

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

I wanted to get the sled to sit up higher with more suspension travel while making it look like it would have been built that way. These sleds we’re really low and would bottom out the belly pan on bigger bumps on the trail.

What motivated you to start your project?

I always loved the bullet shaped nose of the PRS SkiDoo and the unique front suspension. Plus the 670 rotary valve engines are powerful yet reliable.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the sled?

I made the all the front suspension linkages that connect the trailing arms to the bulkhead of the chassis from scratch.

What are you most proud of?

How well the sled rides and handles. These sleds we’re built to corner and even though I raised the entire sled it still corners like it’s on rails.

What do other people say about your snowmobile?

They are very impressed that I took the time to machine my own from suspension parts to widen and raise the front of the sled and make it have a great stance.

Specifics

Classification: Mild
Make, Model & Year: 1993 Ski-doo Mach 1
Fondly known as: The Hooptie
Snowmobile cost: $400
Money spent: $200
Engine: It’s a stock 1993 SkiDoo 670.
Intake: Carbureted
Exhaust: It has a FAST Fat Boy pipe that is heat wrapped.
Drivetrain: It has the stock TRA primary clutch and stock secondary clutch. I did also add reverse for rider luxury. It is a stock 121″ track but I plan on putting a more aggressive 1″ lug track on in the future.
Tunnel/Chassis Modifications: The only chassis mods in the back was to relocate the rear skid rearward mounts to accommodate the suspension upgrade.
Suspension: The front shocks are just some factory replacements with factory springs. We did however machine and install a 1″ spring spacer on the coil spring to help compensate for the added leverage of the longer front control arms. The read skid was upgraded to a factory SkiDoo SC-II that has HPG Racing rebuildable shocks. The bigger the bumps the better it works.
Brakes: Stock
Finish – Paint: Has custom pinstripes and had the registration hand painted on.
