1980 Yamaha ET250

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

To make the snowmobile rideable again after I saw how fast it was I decided to build a grass drag sled out of it.

What motivated you to start your project?

The original engines bearings fried. A new 250 engine wasn’t readily available. I had a Rockwell 440 engine in my garage so I put it in to make it ridable again

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the sled?

The whole project was unique and creative. The 250 engine had a narrow plate mounting the engine to the chassis I had to fabricate a new plate to make the Rockwell 440 twin fit. The exhaust was made to exit right in front of the engine it had to be made to exit out the left side of the sled. The original gas tank was in the way of the recoil so a gas tank from a 340 enticer had to be used and the seat redone to fit the gas tank and cowl. The hood was all busted up so I took it to work and had my body shop guy work his magic on it. We grafted a hood scoop onto the hood to push more air to the engines fan to keep it cool.

What are you most proud of?

The hood is the most impressive part of the sled follows by the sound of the exhaust.

What do other people say about your snowmobile?

I’ve heard a lot of compliments on the way this sled launches off the line and the sound it produces but most people are most impressed by the hood at first sight
