Make, Model & Year: 1973 Alouette Super
Fondly known as: Alouette Super 340
Snowmobile cost: I bought it in boxes for 7k
Money spent: I have around 15k in it now
Engine: Sachs RX 340 free air with the starburst heads and the rare tach drive rewind
Intake: 40 mm mikuni’s with the super rare teeter totter throttle
Exhaust: Original stinger pipes that angle outside the hood
Drivetrain: Comet original equipment
Tunnel/Chassis Modifications: I had to rebuild suspension tunnel brackets as these sleds got an updated suspension in 73 and the original bracket was moved forward redrilled and riveted where needed so i had to make a long enough bracket to cover all the rivet holes and then have an aircraft mechanic use original rivets to attach the piece
Suspension: Stock suspension is all aluminum and made by Texas Industries , and a new old stock track installed The ski’s and leaf springs are also all aluminum and also Texas Industries made , the leafs have PACS to help control leaf spring sway during cornering
Brakes: Original kelsey hayes equiped
Finish – Paint: Cherry Red paint on a repop hood
Accessories: Not much for accessories on an alouette super

Wow !!! , Beautiful Job , Beautiful Sled . I am Happy to see these older unique sleds not only restored but out in the forefront. Alot of younger snowmobile riders and enthusiasts need to see how our sport has evolved and the Vast manufacturers that brought us these beautiful and innovative machines.
Thankyou , the sled is not done yet as my work takes up all my time during summer . Soon i will be back at it and hopefully finish the sled by end of December
I cant wait , please post some pics of the motor when she is complete. When you see the early innovation and creativity that these sleds had , its no wonder why our sport has flourished like it has . Please keep up the hard work , very inspiring to say the least !!!
Hi Ron , I’m looking for some information, please! I’m searching for documentation to build a supercar chassis. I’m a machinist, and I need measurements with photos! Do you have any idea where I could find them? I already have a 340 hood and an engine.
Question!! The size hood 340 and 440 it’s same ?
Great job Love those Allouettes. Got some restored Mercs and Speedway,so I know what you went thru.
I also have a restored 76 Merc TT 440 and a restored 73 Bluemax 340 Speedway . I actually bought both of those restored already but this alouette will be the finest one in my collection when finished . Just last week i got the rare reverse vdo tachometer that is original to the Supers and the original aluminum primary clutch cover . Took me over a year to find those parts :-/
What motor does your Speedway have in it? I had a 340 Speedway back in the 70’s with 340 Sachs free air that looks much like the engine in your Alouette..
This is a excellent example of true craftsmanship. I couldn’t think of a better race sled to bring back to show room condition with very limited part available for the rare build. My hats off to this builder!
Thankyou , the Alouette Super is finally done , I finished it last week and happy to say i have found all the original parts .
Wish i could post more photo’s as it was not done in any of the pics i posted here
I enjoy this sled very well done!
Hello Bill , my speedway is also a 73 and it has the free air Kohler motor with the star burst heads very similar to the Alouettes Sachs rx motor .
Hi Ron,
I am in the process of restoring an Alouette Super 340. I would like to connect with you to talk about the restoration. Yours is beautiful. The only sled I have restored in the past is a 1975 Merc S/T 440. I am currently working on the Super and a 1981 Scorpion Sidewinder.

Is it for sale?
Very nice resto job on a very rare beast. You may already be aware that a young Gilles Villeneuve raced these for Alouette at the start of his career. Enjoy and Cheers.
I use to own one , would you consider selling it?
