2014 Honda CB1100

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

When I bought the bike I did a few miles on it and decided that it was not what I thought an 1100 should feel like.  So the objective was to find the restrictions to the performance and fix the problem!  The other objective was to make it better looking.

What motivated you to start your project?

First off I am entering this bike to show what can be done with a typical Japanese Universal Bike.  This bike was ignored by the buyers here in the US.  I have no idea why as it is truly an amazing bike even in stock form.  Well enough said let’s get to the motivation to build this gem.

I wanted a retro bike that me and the wife could take rides on.  It needed to look the part and most important it had to be different than most others in the area.

I really loved this bike when it came out in 2014.  But at $12,000 it was just too much to spend at the time.  Fast forward to the Winter of 2017/18 and the dealers were giving them away for the price I paid.  No way to let it pass by.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I cannot take credit for what others have done and never will.  This bike was assembled from all aftermarket items.  The people that did the R&D for these parts are the real professionals.  I just did all the installations.  Some of the parts, which were out of production when I bought the bike, were very difficult to find. All parts came from Japan too which adds more difficulty to getting them

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the outcome of the modifications I did to the bike.  The power is a lot better.  Originally it was @ 82 HP now I am just shy of 100 HP.  Not bad for just adding parts to the bike.

The torque is out of this world compared to the bike before.  I cannot describe the difference using mere words.  All I can say is it is amazing now.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

Those that road it before and after the work was completed are amazed at the changes in the power delivery.  I am totally amazed and love the bike as it is now.

Has anybody shopped at Down Ohm Vapors? 🙂

Awesome! I added a Delkevic full exhaust system to my 2014 CB1100 but am having trouble finding the TSR funnel kit and air intakes. They appear to be out of production in 2026. I would sure love to add them to get the engine to breathe better.

Specifics

Make, Model & Year: Honda CB1100 2014
Fondly known as: Black Beauty
Time spent: 120
Motorcycle cost: 5,700
Money spent: 3,500
Engine: The basic engine is stock in all respects. You cannot improve on Honda’s perfection. But since there are no other categories that I can put some of the info, I will include them here. After all of the modifications I had to have the ECU reprogramed. The guys to use are Guhl Motors. Since they have dyno tuned this very bike with this combination before they only needed the unit to make the changes. Sweet! Right! The changes made to the ECU were to raise the redline by 500 rpm and the removal of the top speed limiter. I will never go there but why not do it right! No limitations is the only way to go! LOL! Another slight change to the engine was the addition of what are called Par Plates or secondary blocking air plates. These plates stop the addition of fresh air to the Exhaust System for emissions. But if left alone the engine will make popping noises during deceleration. These plates stop the extra air which stops the popping when decelerating.
Intake: Here is where most of the changes were made. The intakes to the Throttle Bodies were very restrictive. In one of the pictures you can see the black plastic stock intakes next to the much larger silver aluminum ones. The new intakes were made by TSR and are called TSR Funnel Kit. When you install these some slight modifications have to be made to the Air Box. All very easy to do with simple mechanical skills. The next intake modification was the addition of the TSR Air Intake Funnel. This replaces the very restrictive Air Snorkel Silencer. No intake system is complete without a K&N Air Filter. After these mods the bike can now breath like it should and we all know this equals Horse Power!
Exhaust: For me there was but one option for the Exhaust System and that was the addition of the complete Yoshimura 4 into 1 system. This system has the perfect retro look that I was after. it sounds great and performs just perfectly! I thought it would have been a lot louder but in reality is gives just the right sound I was after.
Transmission: Stock 6 speed trans in place.
Frame: Stock
Suspension: Stock
Wheels, tires and brakes: Stock
Finish – Paint: Stock
Accessories: I installed a number of accessories to improve the looks of the bike and make it more my own. I think Honda did a great job with this bike. It was just the type and look I wanted to start with. But I added the items below to make it look a little more “Trick”! • Yoshimura License Plate Frame with Honda emblem fasteners. • Yoshimura decals under CB1100 Side Covers. • Yoshimura decal on Dart Fly Screen. • Yoshimura Oil Cooler Screen. • Yoshimura Carbon Fiber Carburetor cover (home made). • Force Design Carbon Fiber Air Cleaner Covers (2). • Force Design Carbon Fiber Chain Guard. • Force Design Carbon Fiber Front Fork Protectors. • Hondaline Carbon Fiber Tank Protector. • Dart Fly Screen. • Hand Lever end rubber covers.
