1998 Harley Davidson Dyna Superglide

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Build something Simple, clean, fast, Old school, different and definitely Black

What motivated you to start your project?

I wanted to build one that represented me as an individual. I wanted to ride one that looked like the bikes I dreamed about riding when I was too young to.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

Not sure which feature to pick so I will say it was my vision and ability to mix old with new and have them work together in harmony

What are you most proud of?

That my bike has never been in a shop other than my own garage for repairs or customization’s. Also that I have never seen another like it.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

They talk about the little details, things you see when you walk around the bike and look deep. It demands that you take some time when you look at it

I love all the details on this bike, and the fact that this bike has never been to a shop other then the garage that it’s in in the pictures. (Per owners comments) purely a BadAss bike!

    Definitely a thumbs up!
Too many favorite details, so I’ll just say that my favorite part, is the effort put into the details and overall custom look.

  • Doug M says:

Thanks for noticing Chris ! Much appreciated.

  • Brandon P. says:

You can just tell the work that has been done on this Dyna is handcrafted garage built work, the parts that have been made are really one of kind you cant just hop online and buy and install, finding bikes that are built like this is becoming a rarity because few people have the passion and talent to take their projects to these levels of meticulous customization, and this bike clearly shows just that, meticulous one of a kind customization that a shop cannot replicate with any amount of money, the owner should be proud

    • Doug M says:

Thanks Brandon, There are so many things that were handmade or reworked that you can’t see by looking at the pictures . Thanks for appreciating what you can see !

  • Nate says:

Great looking build, really love the attention to detail and classic yet modified style.

    • Doug M says:

Thanks for the compliment Nate ! I definitely had a balance in mind when I started this project between old and new and it came together over time. It took alot of visualization.

  • John Avila says:

I love your dual kickstands. The kicker is a great addition. And of course your black coated Thunderheader too. I own a 98 SugerGlide as well. I have not seen one really like this. You did a great job. And this bike stands apart from all the rest. Thank you for posting this.

    • Doug says:

  • Josh Ritter says:

Hello this is one bad a$$ bike im just woundering what fenders you used on this build normally stock rears are a bit short i love the long stretch look that you have going on im wanting to do a super glide as a softail style look i love those fenders but wasent sure if they would fit though…..

    • Doug says:

Thanks for the comments Josh . The fender needs a little bit of cutting to fit the superglide but it is very doable. Mine worked out real well. Best regards, Doug M

  • mike mctire says:

where did you get the rear fender

  • Marcos Romero says:

Beautiful bike i have a 1998 dyna and i have replaced all gaskets on both cylinders now that i have it together how hard is it to put a kick start man that’s a fantastic job you did on your bike.

    • Doug says:

Hi Marcos, thank you for the comments ! The kick start is not just a bolt on item. I had to take the side door off the transmission and pull the guts out and replace the main shaft with the new main shaft that accommodates the kickstart. Gears, spacers have to come off and be put back on correctly. Doable, just depends on your mechanical ability. Thanks again,Doug M

  • Chris Thomas says:

Absolutely gorgeous build, you’re an artist! I’d really like to know where you got that rear fender, if it came off another bike and if it did, what kind of fabrication was required?

    • Doug says:

Hi Chris, Thanks alot for your comments. AS far as the rear fender it is a Hooligan Sweeper universal fender for custom applications Mine is 7 1/4 wide . The company that I got it from sold the molds to another outfit and they dont have this width on hand any longer but they can custom make it I believe. There is a 7 1/2 and an 8 1/2 wide too I think. Just google Universal Hooligan sweeper rear fender . I had to do a little cutting to clear my frame but it wasn’t too bad to make it work. Take care Doug M

  • Dakota says:

I love the way your bike looks! It has gave me inspiration on mine. I recently got a 98 superglide and have been working on it little by little. I’m really interested in know what rear fender you used and tank? I love that look

    • Doug says:

Hi Dakota, thanks ! Rear fender is a Universal Hooligan sweeper fender. Just do a internet search on that. The tank is the stock tank, I shortened the middle cover and did some bodywork on the exposed weld going down the middle to smooth it out and then made a custom gas cap etc. best of luck Doug M

  • Kerry says:

Love this bike … what is the rear fender that was used .. need one!!!

    • Doug says:

Thanks Kerry. Universal Hooligan Sweeper fender. Internet search should yield some results. Good luck! Doug M

  • Kevin Williams says:

I remember this bike when it had 80 spoke chrome wheels on it and chrome two to one exhaust. This is absolutely one of my favorite bikes ever I’m a huge fan of the all chrome instead of the black but it’s still gorgeous. What wire wheels did you use before the black fat spoke? I have a picture of the bike before it was changed.

    • Douglas Munson says:

Hi Kevin, thanks for your comments. Sorry for delay I haven’t been on the site in quite awhile.
I had a lot of chrome on it for a long time and just wanted a change I guess. The bike was actually totaled in August 2020 but I did salvage it and have rebuilt it. It looks a lot different now , I kept it simple and focused more on function . Still very nice old school looking bike though. The wheels I had on before these Black wheels were from KC international. 80 spoke 21 X 3.5 and rear was 16 inch. You mentioned you had a picture of my bike with all the chrome ??? where did you find that ? Anyway thanks again Doug M
