1989 Harley-Davidson 883 Hugger

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Initially just to make a first time beater bike then it became making my dream bike instead. Never intended on rebuilding a bike from nothing totally tailored to me.

What motivated you to start your project?

I had been pressing my husband to buy a bike. We’ve had several junker type bikes over the years that we always ended up selling before we fixed and got to ride. I really wanted a Harley since we finally had some money to buy a bike, so we bought my husband a 1987 1100 Sportster. I was beyond excited to have one in the family. After a couple weeks of my husband non stop riding I decided to start looking into getting my own to possibly buy the next year. I was about to turn 35 in July and had been blowing off plans of a bike for years for more important family things. I was starting to worry I’d never have my own. I was searching for bikes and sending them to my dad to see what he thought as he’s a lifetime Harley guy. I happened to stumble onto a scam bike at a ridiculous cheap price and desperate text my dad and said “hey. This bike is super cheap and amazing. Will you spot me the cash to buy it now before it gets snatched up?” It blew me away when he agreed. So I tried to get the bike and caught the scam. Major bummer. Told my dad about it and he said “ok. Find something else same price”. I ended up finding a used bike that caught my attention. I barely read the description before I was jumping on it. It was perfect. A diamond in the rough I thought, reminded me of my dad’s Harley that I had my first rides on at 5. It was even smaller. It made my heart sing. I had to have it. Didn’t matter what the trouble could be. Paid the dude online and had to wait 2 weeks to even be able to pick it up because of covid. When my dad and I finally got to go pick her up, we found there was way more wrong than we were told and the so called parts needed to fix her in a day or so were actually a box of random parts that wouldn’t even work with my bike. The front end was zip tied on. The gas tank was from another sporty and was just sitting there. It had a seat way too big for it, no internal lines, stuck clutch plates, no controls, no gauges, wiring was chewed up and ruined, primary cover was cracked, tires dry rotted and worthless. To top it off it had a salvage title which I was unaware of. We thought initially it would be a beater bike. Then made the decision that since it needed so much to even go down the road that we would bring her back from the dead exactly the way I wanted her. Custom from the rip.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I suppose that would be the addition of all my lady parts lol. I have a woman silhouette tail light, naked woman levers that I had to fab to fit, an oil pressure light that reads live nudes, exhaust jewelry that is a naked woman, tire valve stems that are women, 2 naked coins that fill holes where the rear was chopped, boobie guardian bell, and lastly a naked woman hood ornament.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that this is my first non moped bike and I built it side by side with my dad with assistance. I personally had to hunt down each part my bike needed and be sure it fit which meant Long hours of research everything I needed something else. Pretty much have my bike manual memorized. Before this bike I had absolutely no knowledge of bikes or harleys in any way other than riding on the back.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

I always get a laugh and told its beautiful but it stands up like a warthog. People don’t even see the girl parts until they’re up close and personal and it’s always a stun to them. Very funny.
