1980 Honda CB750

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Wanted to save a cool bike from being scrapped and have a fun project to whittle away the winter months on.

What motivated you to start your project?

My buddy Jeff bought an 1982 CB750 with some aftermarket parts ten years ago that eventually suffered engine problems and got stashed in his parent’s garage. When his Dad got tired of looking at it and was going to drag it to the scrapyard I offered to buy it instead, and after finding a complete 1980 CB750 for $250 on Craigslist plans were set in motion to build a bike.

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

There are a few fabricated parts on it; the side covers are cut out of old metal shelving and I’m playing with designs for a new headlight and housing using a spare projector lens I had laying around.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I started out with two motorcycles destined for the junkyard and ended up with one reliable and unique bike that’s also pretty fun to ride. The engine, frame, and carbs are 1980 but everything else is swapped from the 1982 bike.

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

They don’t say much but their smiles speak volumes.
