1972 BMW 50/5

What was your intended objective when you started the build?

Just tried to salvage it and make it whole again I wasn’t sure if it would ever run

What motivated you to start your project?

The bikes sat for many many years out in the weather in Astoria Queens rain snow sleet Sun I had labeled in a mailbox with wheels I wanted to save it from the first day I saw it

What was the most unique and creative thing you did to the bike?

I welded up my own brackets and created saddlebags from World War II ammo cans they open to the side not on the end the top box was built by my grandfather who worked in the Aerospace industry it is all aluminum

What are you most proud of?

Finishing it and getting it to be a whole riding motorcycle pieces parts from me my grandfather and the German heritage

What do other people say about your motorcycle?

Everyone likes it and enjoys looking at all over most people are amazed that it has electric start and kick-start for a bike that age

Engine: 500cc twin cylinder opposed cylinders dual carburetors Kickstart and Electric starter
Intake: Twin slide carburetors
Exhaust: Dual exhaust
Transmission: A 4-speed transmission with a dry clutch
Frame: Original equipment
Suspension: Original equipment
Wheels, tires and brakes: 185×19front 185×18rear
Finish – Paint: Painted original black BMW has 8 different colors of black in that year pinstriping done by Rob McDonough who is a pinstriper and tattoo artist you can look him up on Facebook he does fantastic portraits
Accessories: Could not find a fairing that fit with the auxiliary running lights the running lights are Factory but they never built a fairing to fit with the running lights as I stated the saddlebags are all custom ammo cans
