Dirt Bike Carburetors & Carburetor Kits
Though the majority of modern dirt bikes are now fuel injected, there is still a large contingent of carbureted bikes still out tearing up the turf. There are still a lot of fans of dirt bike carbs. Skilled tuners can tune a carb to perform as well as EFI and carbs are easy to clean and maintain as long as you’re willing to learn how it’s done. But carburetors can fail and become damaged over time. When that happens, it’s time to install a new dirt bike carburetor.
At Dennis Kirk, we carry a great selection of Mikuni dirt bike carburetors that are either direct replacements or will perform better than the OE carbs. The Mikuni flat side carbs provide significant improvements over old round slide carbs by increasing air flow. These carbs come with jets but may need to be rejetted for your specific dirt bike application or elevation.
So, when do you need to replace a carburetor vs. cleaning/rebuilding? The answer is when the inside of the carb is so gunked up or damaged that a good cleaning or even a rebuild can’t bring it back to working order. This often happens when the carb has been neglected and ran for a long time without being cleaned. The buildup impedes the flow so much that you can never tune it enough to get the air/fuel ratio correct. Fortunately, replacing a carburetor is almost easier than cleaning one.
If your dirt bike carb is still in good condition but just needs to be rebuilt or rejetted, we carry a wide selection of carb kits to bring your carbs back to life. Dirt bike carb kits contain everything you need to fully rebuild and repair your carb. These kits contain the OEM jet sizes, so beware you may need additional jets if you are running a different fuel ratio. If performance is your goal, performance jet kits for Stage 1 and Stage 2 setups will help you achieve the optimal air/fuel ratio.
Choosing which dirt bike carburetor, rebuild kit, or jets for your machine can be a bit confusing if you don’t know what the stock setup was. Fortunately, you can contact our Tech Team if you have any questions on what is best for your setup.
