The clear DDV is better at night or when caught in the rain, or whenever you need a DDV. The tinted screen supplied with the helmet lets in light from the lower area below the visor since the DDV does not cover all your vision (it is kind of like wearing bi-focal glasses, it's just distracting). The DDV is not a shield- it lets in a lot of wind. If you are wearing shades when you ride (and who wouldn't ?) then you do not need the tinted DDV anyway.
