The 1980 XL I just purchased did not have a filter in the tank. I wanted to something to keep any crud from getting into the S&S carb. I like the see-through feature. Sometimes I forget to turn on the petcock so looking down and seeing the filter full of gas is reassuring. Note the filter I purchased did not have a red mesh filter. The one shipped to me was cream colored - hence 4 stars. My bike color screamed for red!
These are very easy to install on most bikes. The main question is one of whether you have the space for them or not. If not, there are other Visu-Filter shapes that might fit better. These aren't big, and therefore the amount of filter medium is limited, but the fact that the shell is transparent is very cool and lets you monitor what's going on with your fuel delivery. The diameter of the spigots and the barbs were prominent, enough, that this filter fit snug in my fuel line, and I was comfortable using zipties to clamp the line on the filter.
i will share this, i sell this type of filter at NAPA, and it is better in fit and finish then their brand. the seams are built better and the quality is better, no seems not all the way cut off etc and napa ones have a tendancy to leak quickly at the welds
Running a dirt bike or atv without a fuel filter is like playing Russian Roulette. Who wants to take the chance of a spoiled ride due to water or debris clogging their carburetor? Good fuel filters are cheap insurance, and this filter is the industry standard..
The clear body of this filter lets one see what is passing through the filter and what debris the filter has stopped.
This mini filter is perfect for any bike, installs in seconds! It would have got 5 stars if it came with clamps. All you need to do is turn off the fuel supply, cut your fuel line, slip on some clamps, push the ends into the fuel line and secure it with the clamps(Not Included). And off you go! The price can't be beat!
The filter does everything I wanted it to do. The reason it did not get 5 stars is because the insides came black, and not red. The only reason I bought these from DK is because the insides are supposed to be RED! Very disappointed they still have not changed the picture to stop falsely advertising.
It doesn't have much to do with engine displacement as much as carb size. However there is not fuel restrictions related to this filter as long as it is used as gravity feed. It still will work well with most fuel pumps on newer model motorcycles
