I was worried these slip-ons would be too quiet on my bike after reading the reviews. I first heard them on a 2010 CVO, and loved the deep sound. I purchased them for my 2005 FLHRSI, and I could not be more pleased. I was pleasantly surprised with the volume of the pipes. They are just loud enough. They give a nice snap at start-up, and are very mellow at idle. Under part throttle they remain subdued, but at about 2000 RPM they open up, and I would not want a much louder pipe. The bike is completely stock, with the exception of these slip-ons. The low deep rumble turns heads! This is not your typical Harley sound, its deeper, and that is exactly what I was after.
I installed the Vance and Hines Monster Oval Slip-On (w/black tips) and a Fuelpack and HD Stage 1 on my 2010 FLHTCU HD, it took about 3 hours to complete. Looks great and they’re a little louder than the stock slip-on, these definitely are quieter than the VH Oval Slip-on. These are ideal for those looking for that great VH sound and still being able to be heard; you and your passenger can actual have a normal conversation without having to yell to be heard. Also, Dennis Kirk by far beats any web price and has excellent shipping, order mine on a Monday and received on Wednesday. I would recommend buying the VH Power Duals, one thing, bike just doesn’t have that torque. I’ll be ordering those next!
I ordered the Monster Ovals to go with a set of V&H Dresser Duals to put on my 2010 Ultra Classic. I bought them on a Monday and they were waiting for me when I got home Wednesday. The fitment couldn't have been easier. They really fill up the space underneath the saddlebags and look great! The sound of the Monster Ovals is a good compliment for a dresser. Running at highway speeds, the sound is low enough to hear the radio, but under acceleration you know you have something. The sound is deep and rich.....you probably won't be setting off any car alarms, but you will definately turn some heads.
I bought the monster ovals on a sunday night and they were delivered on Thusday. I installed them on my 2011 FLHX Street Glide in about an hour that night and they look awsome. The only draw back is they are not quite as loud as I was hoping for but they look really nice and am really pleased. Dennis Kirk says they are for up to 2009 but checking the Vance and Hines website I found they fit the 2011 bikes also and at a savings of over $100.
I installed the Vance and Hinse Monster Oval Slip-On (all chrome) and a Fuelpack on my HD 2010 (stage one). The sound is a little bit louder than the original mufflers but it is a nicer and deeper sound. The engine responds much better at any gear and rpm. I ordered from Dennis Kirk the week before Christmas and received my mufflers within few days. Very satisfied.
Installed Vance Hines Monster Ovals on my09 Ultra Classic. I had had regular Ovals on but found them to be too loud for my liking. The monsters are an improvement but still a bit too loud for my taste. The bike preforms much better and my mileage seems to have gone up a bit. The product is well made, no flaws whatsoever. Customer support is first class. Over all, this is a fine product with no complaints. However, if you are expecting really quiet pipes these may be too loud for you. I am 67 years old so that may have something to do with it as well but love Harley motorcycles so I may have to live with it.
Beautiful Pipes...Easy Install..A bit quiet though
I put these on a 2011 FLHX. Install was easy. Took 30 minutes but could go much faster if I didn't take my time. Install was easy and pipes fit perfectly. I believe the dog bone piece should have the flat side up, but instructions or picture was not clear to show this. One pipe does not look perfectly straight, but all I have to do is lioosen clamp and turn slightly to fix. Pipes are deep sounding and at first I was pretty disappointed with sound, but I do want to hear radio and have my wife join me on rides, so it was a compromise I'm willing to live with. Smell and white smoke from right side pipe was pretty nasty but V&H tech line said this is packing burning off - so I expect this should dissapate. I added V&H air filter also and V&H fuelpak. It seems the Fuelpak is pretty essential to getting most from these parts.
I bought the chrome mufflers with chrome tips. The finish is superb and the sound is slightly louder than stock but very pleasing. I had some concern that the wife would find them too loud, but she agrees that the sound is great. Installing was a snap in the garage with the detailed instructions from V&H. I chose this product after talking with Eddie Krawic, a Vance & HInes Pro Stock Motorcycle rider at last years Mac Tools US Nationals. Eddie highly recommended this product and assured me that the fit and finish would be terrific. Highly recommend these mufflers for your 09 or 10 Ultra.
I purchased these Monster Oval slip ons along with the PowerCommander ECM module. The performances increase from these two items along with the Screaming Eagle HD air intake has given me 6 to 7 HP along with snappy throttle response, a great sound (not too loud) for my Road King and tons of compliments on the looks of the VERY wide rear profile of these pipes. While not cheap, the finish on these pipes is excellent letting you know that you do indeed get what you pay for. Couldn't be happier with my purchase along with the tech advice from Dennis Kirk and the quick delivery.
Great product Although a little quieter than I expected. Easy to mount with simple to follow instructions(took about 1/2 hr to complete job).Fit and finish are excellent Dennis Kirk has helpful staff, excellent price, and prompt delivery. I recieved mine next day. I definately will buy from them again!
The V&H mufflers fit perfectly and with little effort. Very happy with the look, sound, & performance. Excellent quality as expected from V&H. Dennis Kirk sells for less. You can't go wrong buying from them.
These pipes are only quiet at an idle, when you get on it and go they roar with one of the deepest sounds I've ever heard on a Harley. They do smoke a little at first until new is burnt off the packing. Installed with vance and hines power dual headers, vance and hines fuelpak, and roland sands design chrome venturi turbo air cleaner.
I just installed the Power Commander, BIg Sucker stage one filter, and V&H Monster Ovals to my 2011 Electraglide. It runs like a totally different bike. I picked up 9.22 hp and 8.9 lbs of torque. It will now get up and run now that the engine has been remapped. The slip-ons give the bike a deep bass tone that quiet down when cruising. I am extremely satisfied with the service from Dennis Kirk and will definitely order from them in the future. They price matched 2 of the items without any problems and the shipping was very fast. Thanks DK.
Replaced V&H Dresser slip-ons with V&H Monster Ovals.
Quality is excellent, all hardware included, and installation straightforward. Sound is low frequency with significant loudness (as opposed to volume); it sounds 'serious'. And the looks are complimentary to the Road King Classic.
Quickly found a Power Commander map for the combination I have--V&H Dresser headers, Screamin' Eagle Air filter, Monster Ovals.
What can I say. I went with the package and Love it. I got the FuelPak, VO Intake with the Duke cover and these beautiful Monster Oval pipes. They took about an hour to put on and they sound 'Incredible"! These pipe's will make any bike look good. I went with the chrome tip's cause I wanted the pipes to blend in with the bike (09 Road Glide) ...not stand out.
These are much quieter than the Rinehart's they replaced. Nice deep sound, much quieter at cruising speed but have a good volume and great sound when you get on it. Both heat shields arrived dented but 1 call to Vance and Hines and they had a new set on the way the very same day!
The styling of these Vance And Hines "Monster Ovals" fit the bike like it came from the factory with them. The look under the hard bags are just right, a step up from the round muffler look. The deep rich sound of these Monster Ovals is just right and not too loud for our Harley 2012 Street Glide. After the install you could really tell they woke the bike right up allowing the Harley 103 engine to breath.
I was tired of the really loud pipes on my last Harley. I heard these pipes on another bike and decided I wanted them. The V&H Monster Ovals have a nice low rumble and tone to them without the loud volume. Great product, great quality.
The Monster Ovals are just plain sick. They sound way better than I thought they would because prior to putting them on my 12 Street Glide I've only heard them on a 96. They are louder and deeper on the 103. V&H exhaust components are top quality and you won't be disappointed.
I would highly recommend if you want quiet mufflers
I bought the monster oval for a 2013 Road King they look very nice on the bike I wish they would have been a little louder installation was simple it took me about an hour and a half and I was ready to roll the only complaint that I have is the end caps the Chrome is coming off
Ordered on a Mon., got em on Wed., put them on by myself Wed. night. These slip-ons are about 25% louder than stock, much lower/ better tone. They added greatly to the overall look of my bike. My first order from this company, they are what they advetise! Very helpful staff too.
I coupled these with V&H Power Duals on my 2013 Ultra Limited. They have the lower non-cackling rumble I was looking for and prefer on a bigger bike. Bigger bikes should say "I am big"... leave the cackling sound on Sportys and Dynas. Install was a bit tedious, Instructions were decent, photos were barely usable. I would leave out the step of marking the heat shields. If you've ever installed pipes/heat shields it's a waste of time, as is laying the head pipe into the heatshields. Just my humble opinion.
What a great sound! Nice deep rumble, with a significant crackalackin when you twist the throttle/get on it. Just like an HD should sound. These mufflers also brought back the low end power lost when I went to dresser duals exhaust. Another big thanks to Dennis Kirk for offering great products at a great price. You won't be disappointed with these mufflers.
Finally got a few days of mild weather so I can install these Monster Oval Slip-ons. They look absolutely great on my 2010 Ultra. The sound is awesome with the Dresser Duals. Sounds much better and louder than the stock exhaust, but not a 'blow your ears out' sound either. Has a real nice deep rumble...Love it!
Nice sounding pair of mufflers, good rumble at idle, but you can really hear them as you open up throttle. the factory mufflers were too just too quiet and another pair that i had bought were too loud(they gave me a headache) these seem to be a just about right. flawless chrome finish. easy to install, i was sent the wrong instructions , but that wasnt a problem. i was able to download proper instructions from Vance & Hines website.
I bought V&H Power duals and the Monster Ovals. Put them on the bike and they look fantastic. They sound great. My buddies are jealous! The only think I did not like, was were they relocated the 02 sensor (for the 2010 FLHTCU). I use a power commander so I plugged the hole because the 02 sensor is not used. I downloaded a map for the Power Commander V for this exact setup and the bike ran pretty good. I had it pro tuned and the mixture was a bit rich, however the before and after numbers for HP and TQ didn't change much. I got 71 hp, 81 ft lbs. tq on a 2010 FLHTCU, 96 ci engine, with SE air filter/breather. runs much better than stock. Will admit, I spent so much money on headers, mufflers, power commander, breather and tune, I was hoping for more performance boost. But they do look good!!
These are awesome pipes. They sound great, but they're not too loud. The fit and finish of the pipes is excellent and they installed easily. I ordered the chrome pipes with black tips, which look perfect on my black dresser.
Dennis Kirk easily the next best price I could find. Add in the free shipping and it was an even better deal.
