Installation of a new exhaust system may change your motorcycles fuel-air mixture. Exhaust discoloration (bluing) is caused by engine conditions such as cam timing, fuel-air mixture, operating temperature, etc. It is not the result of defective manufacturing, therefore is not covered by any warranty. See Chems/Lubes section for products to help remove or prevent exhaust discoloration.
The Air Resources Board (ARB) does not permit the use of aftermarket emission-related parts that alter the air/fuel ratio of an emission-controlled vehicle. Due to these legal restrictions this part cannot be shipped to California.
I got these pipes for my bike. 12 month(25,000 miles) later, one of the clamps holding the heat shield gave out. Replaced it with a heavier clamp. 1 month later heat shield started rattling again. This time one of the brackets on the heat shield had broken loose. Too the shield off and found that another bracket had broken also. Looking closer I found that every weld on the pipes themselves had failed as well. Called V&H and was told they are out of warranty. Another company has a good set of pipes with a lifetime warranty. 45,000 miles later, they still look and sound like new. V&H? Never again.
The look, sound and performance of this exhaust are among the most pleasing on the market. The fitment leaves a lot to be desired. They don't line up withe headers so protect that chrome and grab your pry bar! The plate that mounts the rear of the pipes have mounting holes for the rectifier that need to moved to the right about 1/4 inch so you don't have to re route the wires. Vance Hines should take note these issues as I'm sure it will cost them sales. I can fabricate so I dealt with it although I agree you shouldn't have to. I removed the baffles and cut the fiberglass batting and the end cap off and reinstalled them. I wanted louder. My vance and hines were installed on a 07 vtx 1300c. You need a little muscle to install but not to hard. I think vance and hines should make a better looking clamp or a chrome cap to cover screw heads. Other than that i'm very pleased. Dennis kirk has fast shipping, and if your like me you want your toy fixed fast.
...but not quite as deep a sound as i was hoping for. Like the pipes, install was super easy and they are certainly loud. Installed on an '05 honda vtx1800n. put them on by myself in a few hours. would have been faster but had to deal with an exhaust stud that came out and needed to free nut before reinstallation. First purchase from Dennis Kirk, but have already ordered again. Price on this item beat competitors by quite a bit and shipping was simply outstanding.
Installed the exhaust last night. Very easy installation. Need two people to insure its not drop during installation. I listen to the sound on youtube before purchase. it just doesnt give the sound justice. the sound is better than I could have imagined.
Installed these on my 09 Warrior in about an hour and a half. The fit was a little tight on the front pipe but it all snugged down and sealed fine. Install all mounting hardware loosely and then tighten from front to back. I'm not a fan of chrome but these have an amazing finish and look great. They are very loud on take-off but are mellow at cruising speeds. I'm very satisfied with the look, sound, and quality of the materials and would buy these again. great product great fit had no probs installing these on my meanie followed directions went with no probs.As for sound i kept the baffles in them and its awesome!!!!cleaned the pipes before starting the bike and have no discolor probs.dennis kirk rules super fast shipping great product i highly recommend these pipes.
these pipes are loud and sound great on my fatboy, easy to install, the only thing if you don't have O2 seniors then you will need to get the O2 sensor plugs, vance and hines makes those also but sold separately, mine were 18mm
The Big shots were installed on a 07 VTX 1300c. You need a little strength but not to hard to install. i bought vance & hines big shots in 06 from dennis kirk for my 06 1300 vtx retro.everyone i rode with said they were the best sounding pipes they had herd i was very pleased with them unfortunally my x took my bike in the divorce.i just recently got a 06 1800 vtx retro & will be ordering them for it also.
If you are looking for great sound and not too loud for your Honda 1800, then this is your best possible purchase. Just like some of the other reviews say, product not exactly easy to install and doesn't have the greatest instructions. Do not completely tighten the clamps holding heat shields prior to mounting exhaust to the heads. Overall experience was great tho, as always Dennis Kirk had competitive pricing and is a place you can trust. Fast processing and shipping of the correct part and their service is awesome. No problem ever getting sales or tech department on the phone with any questions. Would recommend these pipes and Dennis Kirk to anyone.
Have a debaffled Vulcan 1600 Went to these Big shots and Quiet Baffles. considerably louder than the Debaffled Factory pipes. standard baffles as shipped will make your ears bleed and are simply straight through pies. Quite baffles added and it is still loud but deeper tone. I like it with the new sound overall. Fit is good but not perfect. Some tension to install. Look very nice and 1/2 the weight of stock pipes. Would buy again
Great product but the instructions are the worst. I followed them to the letter, and they are not correct on several fronts. If I had stuck with these instructions alone, I would still be struggling to get these installed. Do yourself a favor and search online for alternative instructions and/or videos. It will save you tons of time and energy. After the trepidation of installation, the look and sound are wonderful. They are loud with the stock baffles. For me the jury is still out on whether to change that or not.
With the proper installation instructions, these pipes rock.
PS: I awarded 4 stars only due to the poorly written instruction manual. Some of us are not mechanics and rely on guides to get us through. This one won't do it.
The fitment leaves a lot to be desired. Bring you biceps when it comes time to mount these. They should either be spread better or detachable so each header can be mounted separately. The holes in the rear mounting bracket should be moved quarter inch to the right so the rectifier will mount without the wiring needing to be rerouted. They are not a pleasure to mount. I would like to see better heat-shield mounting hardware instead of simple hose clamps. I removed the fiberglass batting and end cap from the baffles for more decibels.
