Is this a fairly simple dyi project?
A shopper on Jan 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: cams must come out to get to the back chain tensioner....its doable but you need a kit or convert to Andrews bolt on cams. you will need tools........push rods will need to be cut or rockers unbolted to free up the lifters off the cams....watch utube
How expensive is it to have done for your cam chain tensioners on a 04 Road King?
John M on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I ended up sending the cam tensioner from Dennis Kirk back because they were both defective. The ones that I bought from Harley were around $100/each. I also did inner cam bearings and lifters while I had it apart. It’s really hard to get the tensioner on the cam chain off without a special tool or removing the cams from the plate.

Very poor quality Tensioner
This primary tensioner was unusable. I used my tensioner tool to install on the cam plate on my Twin Cam Road King. Using the tensioner tool to hold tensioner in a position to pin it back away from the chain the metal body on the tensioner broke away from the round sleeve that the spring clip holds in place. Compared to the HD tensioner I removed from the motor this part was made with very cheap components. I've heard of people using screwdrivers to install these tensioners and having the same issues but this was not the case with with my installation. Reordered another tensioner off ebay with the Cyco shoe. Motor is back together with no issues. Waste of $60.00

I'm not impressed with this product. Not only would I not recommend it or someone, I would try to dicorage them from buying it.
I installed this tensioner, and within 500 miles it was worn out. It had the same wear as the original with 33,000 miles on it
It must be the material it's made out of. This is after 500 miles.

Don't waste your time&money buying these!!
Ordered the primary and secondary tensioners as I'm doing a cam swap on my Fatboy. When I opened the package and compared them to original tensioners they were built with half the thickness metal. When I tried to slide the primary on.it would barely fit over the shaft. So I went to try the secondary, I put the specialty tool on and went to pin it back so i could install cams the thing completely exploded to 4 pieces! So glad it did it then, rather than after I got it all back together and running down the road!! Called to see about returning them and they want to charge me a restocking fee?? I'm not willing to do an exchange, cause after reading all the other reviews, everyone else has had the same problem with them. I don't know why they'd try to charge a restocking fee for this,I'm sure they wouldn't want to install them on their ride. Got WAY too much $$ wrapped up in my baby to put a poorly made product in the internals of the engine!!

I had these installed and they didnt last 4 days!! They both completely fell apart!! Dont buy these. I wish i would have read the reviews first. So now i have to pay to get new ones put in AGAIN!! For what they cost you would think V Twin manufacturing could have made them better quality!! I'll never buy another V Twin manufacturing part ever again!!

Junk! A stock Harley tensioner frame is made of hardened steel components. These are made of very light and flimsy metal that have a tendancy to bent and flex during installation. I tossed mine in the trash and got Harley parts in this case.
