This is a nice seat. It does start out quite firm...manufacturer says it will and break-in over time. I like a firm seat, it just starts a little too firm, hence only 4 stars for comfort. The fit is excellent...actually seems to fit better than the old stock seat I replaced it with. 2 stars for value...more than $400.00 seems a little steep to me. And now for my style rating...I ordered the seat w/back rest but didn't receive the backrest. Inquired w/ customer service and was told it is a warranty issue and provided the manufacturer's contact number. Contacted the manufacturer and it was not a problem to get the back rest as this was about the 12th time in a year a Dennis Kirk customer had gotten their seat without the backrest. Waited another week and received it. My rating reflects the fact that the back rest has a diamond pattern stitched in it and the seat does not so they don't match. Overall, I'd buy it again because the quality makes up for what I considered to be lacking.
glad I finally bought this seat for my wing. love the way it feels and the lumbar support is great. If you like comfort, you'll love this seat.I have short legs and the road sofa seat lowers me just enough. can't say anymore than it is just really comfy to sit on going down the hyways of alaska. Thanks for a very goodddd seat.
Before I bought my bike I test rode several. None of the seats were what I would call comfortable. As the passenger I would end up sitting on my hands after a couple of hours to ease the pain. So when I bought my '84 Goldwing, I researched the market and invested in this seat. Wow! I am so comfortable. My guy didn't think he needed anything new, but is so totally sold on this seat. Says he has never felt so good riding (he has a bad back). Since my bike will be with me for years, this is a great investment.
I purchased this seat for my GL1800A . When it arrived in a few days, I installed it and took a 100 mile ride. It seemed hard at first but after a few miles I understand why, because the seat requires breaking in to you. This seat looks great and the only concern I have is that where the neck of the seat touches the fuel tank, it is elevated about an inch. I hope this condition settles down after a few more miles... yes I have it hooked under the bracket, its the fiberglass pan that is made a little high. The gel fits great and gives much needed comfort for me and my wife.
Spent months looking for a replacement seat for my '06 wing. No OEM anymore. A few places sell covers, one will do a recover. This was the least expensive of the three complete seats that are still available. Didn't really want to spend this much on a 19 y/o bike, but I ride it daily and couldn't afford the down time of re-covering.
That said, the seat arrived well packaged and secure. It fit perfectly on the bike right away, just removed the standard 4 bolts from the old and popped on the new. Took a little compressing but no biggy. Seat back fit right in, one included bolt for the stem. I had to tighten up both bolts to keep it from flopping.
The ride is very different from the OEM. I've popped around the area on it a bit (150 miles at a time) and am getting used to it. It is VERY much wider than the OEM seat. It doesn't feel 1 1/2" lower, but after all these years, the old seat may have been pretty squished!
One BIG note, the passenger trunk cover is really a COVER, not a replacement! You will have to remove the old and put this on. There are no directions, do you leave the old foam? Do you leave the old cover on and put this over? I was able to slip it over the old, but it flew off at highway speeds! Fortunately I caught it. I will have to ponder this more.
Is it comfortable? Mostly. It is a different feel, but it's not the "miracle for your butt" that some say. My passenger does not like the seat back between us, that is definitive. But when she's not there, it's kinda nice. New for me anyway.
I'll have to say the biggest change I've noticed is the bike is quieter! About 1/2 the engine noise as before.
So for the few of us that still need this particular seat, if you need a complete replacement, go for it. If you can afford the down time, a re-cover is probably your better value. Does look good, however!
