Bought these as I have had the "matching" Tour Master jacket for 3 years and I love it. I am not at all disappointed with my decision.
The fit is true to size at the waist, I wear between a 30 and 32 in any other kind of pants, the small was supposed to be right for my size, and it is. The thighs are very baggy though, or at least when you put them on first they apppear to be, when you get on your ride it turns out that much slack must be needed because it all goes somewhere and they do not end up flapping in the wind like you think they might.
These pants have a lot of nice touches that are not obvious until you get them home and really start looking at them, for example extra velcro tabs along the leg zipper protection flap to help keep it out of the way when the zipper is open. All in all it seems top quality.
CE protectors are reasonable, better than the foam pads I have had come with other pants I bought. The 3 position fitment works pretty well, a little fussy to get the pad from one slot to the other, but this is not something you are likely to do all the time, should be a matter of finding what is right for you and leaving it there for the duration.
For my riding position (semi-aggressive) the pads seem to pull towards the inside of my knees more than I would like. This leaves part of my knee caps protected by foam only, not the hard plastic part of the pads. I have found that I can correct this by positioning them one at a time once my feet are up on the pegs, so I usually do the right one when it is time to roll, and then fix the left as soon as it is up and I am getting up to speed.
Have not had the honor of riding them during a downpour yet, but my jacket has the same waterproof layer and has never even thought about leaking. I am curious to find out if the waterproof layer is long enough to keep the water from going down into my boots though. It seems to stop a little far short of the mesh leg.
One last thing, I am a commuter rider, traveling about 30 minutes each way to work. I don't get the speedo much past 45 at anytime and feel confident that at those speeds a slide might shred these pants but probably not get as far as my skin. Really do not think they would be a good choice for anyone doing a lot of riding at higher speeds. Sure the aeration would be great, but I am not convinced that the construction of these pants could protect you well enough under those conditions. You might want to think more about wearing a cow!!!
I had bought one pair of these pants but had to return them because they were too small so I ordered the next size up. When I got them I was surprised at how really big they are. My co worker thought they would work as a double sleeping bag for my kids because they were so big. Due to the size, I’m a little concerned about wearing these on my bike, I might fly away like a kite or something. They are also very heavy for pants. As a warning, on both pairs, the thermal and water proof liners are a lot shorter for some reason than the outer mesh shell. I don’t understand why but hey are. Just be aware that because there are 3 different layers, the mesh outer pants are HUGE. I considered sending these back also and starting my search over again but I didn’t want to go through the long wait since it was almost 2 months to get these from my original purchase date.
These pants run small! I had to return the pants I bought even though they were suppose to be the size I wear. The waist and the legs were tight. I tried them with and without jeans on and could barely use them over the pants. These pants are bulky with all the different layers of fabric. The inner liners were about 4 inches shorter than the outer pants. That didn’t make sense to me.
I love the idea of the flexibility of the having a all-in-one multi season pants. I live in Northern Nevada and during the summer I can leave the house for a ride and be wearing just mesh then as I go up in the Sierras and as it cools I need to start adding layers. Occasionally there are even threats of thunder showers in the afternoon and it would be nice to have some water proof pants to stay dry. Now I’m looking for a jacket to complement the pants.
Like the pants over all. Have used them from 36d to 80d and have been very comfortable. The pads can be adjusted vertically very easy but have not horizontal adjustment. I’m husky with fairly big thighs and the pants turn inwards when sitting on the bike; which then makes the knee pads not align with my knees. That would be my only complaint
I bought these pants for wet/cold weather in the Pacific Northwest. When they first arrived, it was 29 degrees here. I went for a 20 minute ride with these over jeans and my legs were cool, not frozen like I would have been with just my chaps. My hands gave out long before the legs did wearing First Gear thinsulate gloves. I have since worn them in the 40 degree rain that I expected, and they do the job. Fit is good. I didn't have to go over or under my actual waist size to be able to fit these over jeans with the insulating liner in them. My only complaint is that even with the ankle velcro closed tight, my ankles/shins still get wet. Shipping was very fast.
