I've only had an opportunity to use the evaporative vest once. Bought it for use while motorcycling. I did feel the weight of the vest once it was charged with water, but that wasn't any big deal--just something I hadn't considered. I do believe the vest kept me cooler while riding in 90+ degree temperatures. It lasted two and a half to three hours. By then I was in mountains and lower temperatures so I did not recharge. I would recommend it to others.
I ordered the vest a few days before leaving on a bike tour of the Black Hills and Yellowstone. I noticed a minor sewing flaw at the collar, but decided not to return/echange the vest. It works as advertised. With daytime highs of 105°F in the Badlands, it made the ride bearable. I even went so far as soaking it in the evening, rolling it up into a Ziplok bag, and keeping it in the refrigerator overnight. Packed in a saddle bag, it would stay cold for a few hours. Once deployed, it kept me cool for 2-3 hours.
I would like to thank the company for this product it has made my life better, I was burned over 40% of my body and then they had take 40% more for skin graphs so there for 80% of my body has no sweat glands and I get so hot that it makes it uncomfortable to go out in the summer. This product has gotten me out this summer which I am grateful for... This is a great purchase soon I will enjoy it even more when I get back riding. Thanks again
As a brand new rider, aside from the recommended list from the dealership, I wasn't sure what to wear to to the multi-day MSF course. It was hot and humid, and the course was held on an asphalt convention center parking lot. This vest kept my core cool and comfortable the entire time we were "on the range" and it fit well. The little bit of weight (a pound or two?) from the water it retains is a non-issue compared to the cooling comfort it provides. Awesome. Just awesome.
