Great concept, but execution not so great

February 22, 2015

I've always liked the concept of Supertrapp adjustable disc design. However, with this kit the mid-pipe didn't fit. The welded bracket was not in the right place and was too high. I had to drill another hole in it to get it to fit. I also had to cut the mid-pipe to reduce the length where the muffler attached. But the worse thing is the disc bolts froze inside the captured nuts inside the muffler despite using the anti-seize provided and torqueing them properly. The first time I tried to remove the bolts to adjust the disc stack, (only after 80 miles of riding), the bolts froze in the captured nuts and two of the bolts stripped. Then when trying to replace with new bolts, one of them froze part way in and no matter how carefully I tried to coax it in or out gently, it eventually broke away the captured nut because they are just riveted in. I had to pull the core to get the bolt out and that too was messy as the packing didn't come out smoothly with it. The bolts and nuts for the discs are just too small and fragile. Plus on this model they only use 3 bolts instead of six, so if one breaks, you're left with only two bolts holding the discs. My feeling is if you are going to make tuning adjustments, you have to do it immediately and within the first few miles and use a ton of anti-seize. Don't expect to be able to make adjustments later on because the threads of the bolts are exposed inside the muffler and therefore exposed to corrosive exhaust gasses and will get coated with carbon. I couldn't believe after only 80 miles, they were already frozen in place. It's a bad and fragile design. I had a 4" Supertrapp previously with 6 bolt arrangement on another bike and didn't have this problem. I still like the concept, but I will have to come up with some other method of adjusting the discs if I want to do it down the road. The sound is louder than I'd like with 12 discs, but not intolerable. I gave it overall a "Good" rating because once you have it set where you want it, it's a nice can. But have to say I'm disappointed in the quality and flimsy execution of this kit for long term ability to make changes as you change performance aspects of the bike over time..

The most tunable system ever

March 25, 2012

Easy install. Nice fit. They provide EVERYTHING you need to set up the system. Since I'm in the process of setting up the carb with different jetting, the ability to add or remove discs to change back-pressure makes this the most adaptable, tunable slip-on system there is. Over the years I've used all the system types from straight through to chamber type, and there is nothing as tunable as the SuperTrapp discs. Mine is a spark arrester type, and is the "quiet" model. It's much, much mellower than the race version, and also much quieter than four other brands that I also have. BTW: I had to exchange item on my order, and DK's included UPS 'stick-on' labels made it a ten second drop-off. Nice.

GREAT PRODUCT !!!

September 5, 2010

I replaced an old style Supertrapp on my Yamaha Warrior. On the old unit I had to remove most of the disks to avoid getting a noise ticket. The new Supertrapp IDS is almost as quiet as the stock exaust with all the disks in and all the lost horsepower is back !!! I still have the great Supertrapp sound just not so much of it to get the cops after me. This is a great design. I am also very happy with the service I recieved from Dennis Kirk. The product showed up on time and as ordered.

Super Trapp IDS2 Quiet

July 20, 2010

on a "98 DR350SE. Comes w/ 12 discs, anything more than 7 creates quite a bark, not what I would consider "quiet" or even close. 7 discs does create a deep good tone though. Does it make more power? Who knows, I installed it at the same time as a jet kit & drilling 30 - 1/4" holes in the airbox. It was VERY lean to start with & definitely starts & runs better now. The whole system is 3 lbs lighter than the factory. It does NOT include the gasket between it & the head pipe.

Worth the Money.

October 21, 2009

The sound is just what I wanted and the performance increase is impressive. The installation was fairly easy, it just seemed alittle tighter than necessary, I had to use a rubber mallet to get the pipe sections all the way seated so the bolts lined up. Otherwise it is a great product that I would purchase again.
