Having read the review of this Helmet in the June 2011 issue of Rider Magazine. I went looking, and could not find one in the area. So off to the web I went. First I must say DennisKirk.com is amazing.. I placed my order on a Sunday night. Tuesday it was on my door step ( standard shipping ).
These Helmets run small, if you use a 2X nolan, or HJC order the 3X Suomy. I still had to remove the liner, and hit a few place with some sand paper, to adjust the fit. ( use caution here, a little bit goes a long way !!) It extends farther down in the back than most. If you have a short neck, I am not sure it would be a great choice for a full on Sport Bike. I had to create a small 45 degree cut in back edge foam with an exacto knife, to stop it from wanting to roll forward to the point it was pushing down on my glasses, but that did resolve the problem.
I have ridden with this "hat" almost every day, including a 300+ mile, 90 degree ride on memorial day, the helmet was equal to or better than ony other I have owned. It is very light, the vision to the side is perfect, the shield is very clear and dosent distort. You can ride with the shield in any position full open to full close, and it stays put. Getting your glasses or sunglasses on works very well, no seams or things to mess up that process. The Liner is easily removable with four snaps, very comfortable, with a high end feel.
The lower vent works very well for keeping the shield clear on cold mornings. The upper vent, for me on my bike, is a bit low on the helmit, if I sit up and get the vent in the airstreem it vents very well, normal riding position, not as well. ( I ride a Honda ST1100 with a lowered seat, and stock height wind shield.)
In the airstreem as expected, it is a bit noisy, a little less than my old Nolan N-102, but i still need ear plugs. The REALLY great thing about this helmet, besides the weight, is you dont get pushed around when you turn your head, its a very nutral feeling, thats a HUGE plus on a long day.
If you are going to install an intercom, or Blue Tooth headset, there are NO speaker holes, but there is room. I intend to get the optional cheek pads and see what I can do, for that install. I am also assuming the cheek pads will quiet it down a bit more, and that would be a additional plus.
The Sport bike rider will love the Suomy Apex. Sport Bagger, and Touring guys, will enjoy this hat also, thoes of you with adjustable windscreens even more when it hits 90 degrees.
If you are looing for a high quality light weight helmet, consider the Suomy Apex. Many of the same featuers as the Venom.. but in my mind a much better price point.
Now i just have to figure out the web site. for the optional cheek pads, and a spare shield.
