In late winter of 2017, I was on Craigslist and discovered a ’99 MXZ for only $500 bucks. We know what that means. Something was wrong. It had a blown engine but I bought it anyway—it had possibilities. The nylon water pump failed and destroyed the crank. Three years later its done. I have north of $2000 in it so I’m guessing the total investment is about $2,500.
My plan was to create a terrific looking trail rider. I think that was achieved because everyone who saw it in Davey Supplees’s shop was blown away. The sled is basically stock for reliability. Nothing was modified because at 78 years, I don’t care about speed or super-duper handling other than twin carbides per ski. It was largely an aesthetics project. Probably the most unique departure was the use of orange. The color theme was stolen from Doo Blizzards in the 70’s. The hood is a wrap job and the orange seat top was a hard steal from the 1974 Blizzards that never were.

For Skidoo’s 80th anniversary they had a contest that required a secret code to be deciphered at your local dealership to instant win or send it in for their 2nd chance draw. While I considered myself lucking to win a limited edition fleece pullover it was also the first year in which Skidoo offered a factory yellow and orange sled. Two of them (Mxz’s) were included in the draw. Wonder who those lucky winners were.,
