From the start The Pink Sled was planned to be for our daughter. I am not even sure that it started out as a pink sled, but as time passed the project took on more of a pink element.
We had quite a few spare parts kicking around in our machine shed. The challenge was to complete a good looking, running sled with the parts that we had on hand.
As far as being unique, this is one of a kind. The chassis is a liquid cooled chassis that has been modified for the fan cooled engine. The engine incorporates the crank from a liquid cooled engine with the lubricated center bearing not found on the fan cooled Kawasaki’s. Dual exhaust was added. The Dual exhaust option was offered on the quad plug, liquid cooled sleds. This is the only fan cooled Kawasaki we have seen with dual exhaust. And of course, the paint and graphics are all custom for this sled. We are grateful to our friends who helped with this project: Lewis Signs who provided the custom graphics, John’s Upholstery for recreating the 1981 seat, our friends at Kawasakitrax.com for their insights and encouragement, and Dennis Kirk for the many wear parts that needed replacement.
We are proud of the fact that the project was able to be finished, and, that it ran when it was done. In fact it runs quite well. We added the electric start option so that our daughter could start it by herself. This has turned out to be a good addition. And, as evidenced by the photos, the sled looks pretty good too. It is great to have a 38 year old sled that runs and looks like new.
Others say “that is really pink” or “how cool is that”. We get a lot of offers from people who want to buy it for their daughter.
