I've owned my V-Moto for 3+ years and have been very happy with it - great fit, easy to clean, nothing to replace/fix and Shoei has a great reputation for protecting heads. My girlfriend is getting into dirt riding so I purchased another V-Moto for her at a closeout price at Dennis Kirk- a great deal given my experience with the helmet and the overall Shoei quality.
The V-Moto seems to run a tiny bit small. Also note that the chin bar is shorter and tighter to the mouth than many other MX helmets that have a large chin bar that stick out further from the mouth. It's not a bad thing, just something you should be aware of - personally I like a shorter chin bar because it makes it easier to see the front of the bike without dipping my head down. Fit and finish is excellent (have not had to fix/replace anything in 3+ years), the interior padding has molded well and is in excellent condition (no tears, worn spots, etc). Highly recommend Shoei and specifically the V-Moto.
A great Helmet. Price was really perfect, Dennis Kirk undercut all helmet shops in my area. The helmet is a perfect fit, very comfortable and looks good. I use with my street bike although I can also use offroad as well.
Absolutely love this helmet. It was a smoking deal at 70% off and fit me perfectly as an XS size. The helmet itself is super light and sturdy. It is snug, but still rides super cool with all it's great airflow and ventilation in the heat of BC Summer. I seriously recommend this product, especially for cross country, enduro, hare scramble style racing (not bulky with great visual field.
I've been dirt bike riding for +25 years. I've learned through trial and error the best helmets are made by Shoei and Arai. Notably, the Shoei helmets are lower in cost; yet, the quality are at parity. Buy this helmet, especially since it is on deal at <$200, you won't be sorry!
Fantastic Buy, I have always wanted a Shoei Helmet and this V-Moto Veer TC-5 is a dandy..... been riding since 1967 and have had many Brand Helmets, this is the best yet and at my age it maybe a good thing, could be a life saver and the reason I can keep enjoying my dirt bike.... LOL.
I bought this helmet for a replacement. My first Shoei. SO far very pleased especially since I got it at a clearance price. Styling and fit are good. I thought my head deserved a high quality lid and so far i am pleased. Sizing was about right. The opening for the goggles may be a little smaller than my old helmet. My goggles are a little tight. Otherwise, very nice and looks great.
This helmet is true to size and the lightest weight helmet I've ever owned. You can feel the exceptional quality as soon as you hold it in your hands. I was hesitant to buy a Shoei helmet because they are expensive but you definately get what you pay for and this helmet is worth every penny. Highly recommended!!
I have had a couple diffent helmets HJC, Fox V3, and Fox V2. I would have to rate this helmet the highist with fit, weight, and about the same in comfort as the V3. The helmet strap is a little harder to work with then the other helmet for some reason but if you can get this helmet at the close out price you will be hard pressed to beat it
This is actually a review for the v-moto veer tc-5... pretty much the same helmet but different graphics...some reason it sent me to the savage review page. Anyway this helmet is great! I owned a shoei street bike helmet before and it fit really well so I decided to buy another one for my dirtbike. Just as before the fit is awesome... its really comfortable and light weight! Plus you can't go wrong with getting it at half price!
I bought one of these in black a couple years ago and it was obviously the lightest helmet of all the ones I tried with the exception of a real expensive Fox. The Fox helmet just didn't feel or fit as good as the Shoei which fit like it was made for my head. I get bad headaches when I ride from neck issues. The Shoei is soooo light that it greatly helped reduce my headaches. I noticed DK was closing them out so I bought another as a spare. Only $150!!! Are you kidding me!! Some models with different color scemes are almost $500. Excellent!!
review is for the afterburn--not the savage but the picture wont change/as far as this helmet goes i like it very much, the fit, finish is great its more purple then blue but it looks good.very nice pin stripes(i have a thing for pin stripes)i havent worn a motocross helmet in a lot of years but ive worn a lot of shoeis, the new ones seem very light from years ago and they still fit snug in the cheeks till they wear in, you can always buy a more expensive helmet im sure dennis kirk has many of them, but this one works for me
I have always been a Shoei helmet fan, just have a hard time justifying the extra money for them. This deal came around and I couldn't pass it up. I have had several Shoei helmets, as well as Fox V3, KBC Pro-X. This is my new favorite. I like it better than the higher end Shoei, as I can't get used to the funny shell design. I use mine with Quickstraps and Scott goggles and they work well together.
the helmet fits tight (in a good way) and is very comfortable. it's a little bit heavy. the beak is smaller and closer to the mouth comparing to other helmets i had, so i think it's more protective, but it's also a bit less ventilated. very good quality. it's shoei...
yeah i was really impressed with this helmet but mines in the metal mulisha model and when i had my 40mph wreck into a tree i hit head first and got tossed about 10 feet from my bike and i was not even that hurt and my helemt was still in great shape and so yeah i would recomend this to every body
Great product. According to hours and hours of research, Shoei is one of the only 2 helmets you should ever buy. I am not taking a chance on a lesser helmet. Hope we never find out how good they are but am very happy with it right now. My daughter rides track and it is nice being able to see her stand out in a crowd. Makes for keeping track of her eaiser. Nice to know she has best protection I can buy too. Thanks for the great deal Dennis Kirk! I will be shopping here in future now too
What otherwise would have been a great helmet turns out to be a problem. The paint has an issue where it scratches with anything harder than a fingernail scrape. I contacted DennisKirk and was told that they had others doing the same thing so it must be a manufacturer defect. Shoei and DennisKirk were very helpful in resolving the problem. This was with a matte finish so maybe the gloss is ok?
I was not pleased with this helmet when it arrived. I ordered the ( V-Moto Podium TC-6 Helmet) grey flat finish with the red pin stripes. What a great price for a Shoei! I returned it because it had some odd discoloration around the black strip near the face opening. Not a functional issue, but I was not happy so I returned it. I have never owned a Shoei helmet and really wanted one. However, I was a bit surprised that the helmet was not all that light. In fact, my HJC is about the same weight. Without getting into a helmet debate... I decided that THIS Shoei is not all that impressive. Really it feels pretty much like most lower end helmets that I have tired. The helmet is OK, but I would have been ripped had I paid $350 for it. Definitely not all that. For $126... eh? It's OK. I will wait until I can buy a better Shoei.
The really GOOD NEWS: Dennis Kirk made returning the helmet a breeze! It came with an envelope that had a preprited UPS label. I boxed everything back up stuck the label on and dropped it one of those "mailbox" shipping stores. This is brilliant on the park of DK. I paid nothing. However, if I had returned it for other reasons the return shipping fee of $7 would have been deducted from my refund. Still a great deal for shipping and an EASY way to work with mail order items. Kudos to Dennis Kirk for this return system. I will be back because of this!
There's a reason these helmets are being blown out so inexpensively. Mine arrived a few days ago, and upon inspection, shows a manufacture date of August 2005, meaning it's been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for six years, something that DK should have disclosed somewhere. Also, the finish mars and scratches at the slightest touch as though its decomposing somehow. I'm going to contact Shoei about the paint, but if they can't help, its getting returned to DK.
