I originally tried a Nomex Hood from my fire company bunker outfit but it was only designed to repel heat. I have worn this driving my motorcycle to work during temperatures down to 30 degrees. The best for cold winter riding.
Chose this Balaclava to keep my neck from freezing in morning temps that can get down to high 30's/mid 40's during the first half of my morning commute. Front panel really cuts down on wind and my neck is no longer cold. The thin hood doesn't make my full face helmet feel small, I'm not annoyed at a thick seam pressing against my forehead, and the hood keeps my slowly balding head from getting cold as well! Even with helmet chinstrap, the front panel stays tucked in my leather jacket even after my 40 mile commute to work with lots of lane-changing neck turns. It's not hot either on the 2nd half of my morning commute when temps can be low/mid 50's. Balaclava is still relatively new, face hole hasn't stretched and doesn't seem like it will, but is just a tad small for my preferred eyes/nose/mouth not being covered which is why I labeled it as "fits moderately small".
