This luggage is awesome and has tons of pockets and nooks for your stuff. Very high quality, well laid out, and the easily accessible rain cover that's tucked away in the top is brilliant. I'd buy this again and I haven't even used it yet.
MY COMPLAINT: The included directions are WOEFULLY inadequate. The one-page instruction sheet tells you how to install the plastic rods that size the sissy bar mounting system properly, but THAT'S IT. There is nothing included that tells you how/where to clip or use any of the six or so unattached straps that come with it or how to mount the 'backpack' strap. There's also a ~1-inch wide female clip on the bottom of the luggage that I think is used with a strap to secure the bottom of the luggage to your luggage rack, bug none of the straps I got have a 1-inch clip; they're all ~1/2-inch. So, I think I'm missing a strap. I wouldn't know though since we come back to the non-existent instructions.
Anyway, that shouldn't put you off. This luggage does kick some serious gluteus and I'll be contacting the manufacturer with lots of questions.
I purchased this bag early in 2010 for my 2008 Yamaha V Star 650 Silverado. It is an awesome piece of luggage and the studs match the studs on my bike. The roll bag is nice for day trips if not travelling far, but the bag and the roll bag make for a wonderful travelling companion. I liked the side openings instead of the top opening on other bags. Also the availability of locking the zippers gives us a little more security while stopping. The only concern that I had was that the mounting instructions lack enough information to strap the bag to the sissy bar and luggage rack. Although I did figure out how to strap it down. I liked this bag so much that I purchased the S3500 (without studs) for my fiance'. The price was the best that I could find anywhere, either online or in any store. Thank you Dennis Kirk for having such a great deal and Saddlemen for making an awesome bag!!!
The s3500s by saddelman is just flat out the right bag for the job. This bag not only boasts large storage area and excillent access, but the construction is bar none the best i've seen in any bag. the bag is soft but still keps its form durring transport. the built in rain fly is great it fits over the bag and the roll top perfectly. YThe integrated straps in the roll top bag are great there are no straps to mess with. Now on to the access. most bags you have to access from the top to the bottom and then it's a hassle to get anything out. NOT ONLY is the access from the side great but there is a shelf to seperate your belongings. The side pouches and storrage is the best i've seen. the multiple mounts for the sissy bar is awsome. no matter what bike I am on I can use my bag. then there is the added feature of the back pack straps. GREAT IDEA!!!!!
To sum up I think anyone buying a bag other than the s3500s is selling themselves short.
My old Saddlemen bag was beginning to fail at the zippers. I searched for the "right " bag at the "right" price. I ordered the S3500 bag because of the adjustable shelf and the side opening features. I've used it on one 1400+ mile trip so far with no problems surfacing. I placed the order on a Monday afternoon and received it on the following Wednesday afternoon. Fast delivery the best price and well built bag. What else could you ask for?
This bag is awesome! Sturdy, great quality and has lots of room and comparments. Just got back from a 3 day bike ride with the wife. Camped and lived out of this bag for the 3 days. Never had to take it off the bike. Everything stayed organized and and easily excessable. Overall great back and for the price you a really getting more then what you pay for!!!
I could not be happier with this bag. It matches my bikes studded seats and held every thing I needed for a 10 day trip to Sturgis. The sissybar mount works well when the bag is empty or half loaded but when fully loaded it seemed to wobble around a bit on the rack so I used 2 of the many straps that come with the bag to hold it down to the rack better. The zippers seemed a bit stiff at first but a quick spray of silicone lube solved that problem. Over all the bag worked great and Im sure I will use it for many years to come.
I LOVE THE BAG, LOTS OF ROOM FOR EVERY THING YOU NEED FOR A LONG TRIP AND IT LOOKS GREAT ON MY 04 HERITAGE.THE ONLY REASON I GAVE OVERALL RATING OF 4 STARS IS BECAUSE OF THE INSTRUCTIONS.THEY DO NOT SHOW YOU WERE TO HOOK ANY OF THE STRAPS THAT COME WITH THE BAG.WITH TRIAL AND ERR I WAS ABLE TO GET MOST STRAPS HOOKED UP.I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO HOOK THE BACKPACK STRAPS ON. I WILL NEED THEM AFTER MY WIFE GETS ALL OF HER STUFF PUT INTO THIS BAG.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BAG BUT I HOPE SADDLEMEN STARTS TO SEND BETTER INSTRUCTION WITH THE BAG
