Saddlehyde Explorer Seat w/o Driver Backrest
Perfect low rider style. Sits you lower than stock. More "in" the bike than "on" the bike. Quality and comfort is high with this seat. The rise on the passenger pad creates enough backrest for your lower back so no rider backrest needed. Fit on my Classic LT was perfect. Only complaint so far is it holds some heat when in the sun all day.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Tailbone pain after only an hour of driving. Maybe it's just my "butt style" but this seat is not comfortable for me. The key to a great seat is for the seat to be firm on the sides and softer in the center to prevent tailbone spinal pain sitting on our rides. I can't ride for more than an hour when the seat starts bothering me. I like the style and because these seats are so expensive, I will probably take my chances and pull the seat apart and rebuild the padding in the center to accomodate my pain! I wish I would've had the option to buy it with a backrest. I see that option is available now. If I ever do have to buy a seat for another ride I would probably spend more money and hope it's more comfortable.I wouldn't recommend this item to a friend.
Not a bad seat for the money
This seat was a great price, and DK shipped it super fast. It's not as comfortable of a seat as the Sargent seat was on my BMW R1150R, but it's definitely a step of from the stock seat on my Yamaha V-Star 1300. I had a lot of tailbone pressure with the stock seat, and that was mostly alleviated with the Saddlemen seat. My passenger found the integrated pillion seat to be a comfortable seat as well. It lowers you and brings you forward a bit, which I've found brings my knees into a position where I have to be careful turning the handlebars all the way to one side during slow maneuvering. I'm 6'2" though, so not everyone will have that same experience. Installation was quick and easy. The only flaw in the quality was some extra threading in the stitching. I haven't decided if I want to try to pull or cut it out, or just leave it. It's not noticeable unless you're looking at it up close though.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Good, but not great.
Purchased this seat a couple weeks ago. I have a few comments. The good. First off, very fast shipping. I love the look of this seat. Excellent styling. Very nice stitching. Really sets off my LC Intruder. The seat helps craddle you down into the bike. It helps keep movement to a minimum through bumps and corners. The so-so. Although the description says this is a gel seat, It is quite firm, if not boarderline hard. Other reiviews have said it needs break in time, so I am giving it an average and will hope for better comfort down the road. I also read that this seat gives good back support. Having a bad back, I can only agree with this somewhat. The seat does offer some buttocks and tailbone support, but little in the way of lower lumbar. Much better than stock, of course, but not as much as I was hoping for. A driver back rest will be in order in the future. However, for those who are used to, or do not mind a firm seat, I would say they would be very pleased with this one. The bad. I'm giving fitment low marks because it did'nt quite line up with my bikes mounting holes. Also, the bolts that came with the seat were extremely long, IMO, and while instaling the brackets onto the seat, one of the heli coils separated on the inside of the mounting hole, and hence I could not fully tighten down one of the brackets. I called Dennis Kirk and was informed that I could not return the seat. I am having to deal directly with Saddlemen to resolve the issue. So far they have been very helpful and friendly. Overall I would say it is a good seat... but am still hoping it will soften up some after it has some miles on it.I would recommend this item to a friend.
wife was very uncomfortable on stock seat now she loves to ride with meI would recommend this item to a friend.
Mounted on VT1100 Spirit. Went on a two hour ride. Seat was too narrow and too short. My tailbone and my inner thigh started to hurt. It did however bring me lower to the ground by at least one inch.I wouldn't recommend this item to a friend.
