Makes underseat service easier (only one bolt) and both rider and passenger more comfortable.
Seat both lowers and moves rider slightly forward and adds back support.
The good. First off, very fast shipping. I love the look of this seat. Excellent styling. Very nice stitching. Really sets off my LC Intruder. The seat helps craddle you down into the bike. It helps keep movement to a minimum through bumps and corners.
The so-so. Although the description says this is a gel seat, It is quite firm, if not boarderline hard. Other reiviews have said it needs break in time, so I am giving it an average and will hope for better comfort down the road. I also read that this seat gives good back support. Having a bad back, I can only agree with this somewhat. The seat does offer some buttocks and tailbone support, but little in the way of lower lumbar. Much better than stock, of course, but not as much as I was hoping for. A driver back rest will be in order in the future. However, for those who are used to, or do not mind a firm seat, I would say they would be very pleased with this one.
The bad. I'm giving fitment low marks because it did'nt quite line up with my bikes mounting holes. Also, the bolts that came with the seat were extremely long, IMO, and while instaling the brackets onto the seat, one of the heli coils separated on the inside of the mounting hole, and hence I could not fully tighten down one of the brackets. I called Dennis Kirk and was informed that I could not return the seat. I am having to deal directly with Saddlemen to resolve the issue. So far they have been very helpful and friendly.
Overall I would say it is a good seat... but am still hoping it will soften up some after it has some miles on it.
I was really excited about ordering this product, most reviews were ok and the price was right.
For my wife and I, the darn seat is just to hard and I was glad to put my stock seat back on. It was so hard that we could both feel the vibrations of the road running up our spine. I just received and installed a Mustang 2 piece vintage seat and its (so far) fantastic. My wife LOVES the passenger seat and I love the feel of the covering and workmanship. The Mustang is a keeper. I wish I tried it from the start.
On my 06 Vulcan Classic it really improves the seating position. Drops you down so you are more "in" than "on" the bike, that's nice. The shape of the drivers portion is great. A bit narrower by the tank than stock and it holds you in place very well. Takes all of 5 min to install it.
The stitching pattern on the pass portion is a bit funky and takes some getting used to. The pass part is a little smaller and thiner than the stock seat and my kid preffered the stock seat especially after I had a layer of memory foam installed, but that made it thick and bulky looking. But I primarily ride single and won't usually haul a passenger for more that a quick trip, so pass comfort wasn't a priority.
I now have about 400 miles on it, and either it's softened up, or more likely, I've gotten used to it. I must admit it's not as padded as I would like, but that said, I can still ride it for hours without discomfort. I do not regret the purchase and really think that if you give it time it gets more comfortable.
