Known for their bright red paint and racing performance, Rupp snowmobiles were some of the most popular during their day. Rupp Industries, like many other snowmobile companies of the time, did not start out producing sleds, though. Founder Mickey Rupp first started out by creating go-karts in 1959, and later moved on to mini bikes, dirt bikes and eventually their famous snowmobiles in 1964. Rupp’s models of snowmobile included the Sno Sport, American, Yankee, Rally, Sprint, Rogue and Nitro. The Rupp American was the luxury model in the lineup with features like electric start, an 18” track and stunning looks. The Nitro was Rupp’s premier race sled and was billed as the “ultimate snow machine.” The Nitro was one of the fastest snowmobiles at the time and is still a coveted oval racer. Rupp snowmobiles lasted from ‘66-‘79, giving them a solid span of producing snowmobiles, though fanatics might wish the brand was still around today.
