Memphis Shades Lowers, a great alternative.
This is the same review I wrote for the lowers themselves, but since these are bought as a set, the review pertains to both products as one......... I had been shopping for lowers for awhile, but was deterred by the high price of the dealership factory parts. I was suffering from a lot of "tank side wind". The cheapest I found them for was about $300 when shipping was added in. They were lowers made by Victory (Pure Polaris). This was after shopping until I was beating my head against the keyboard.
I decided to try trusty Dennis Kirk to see if the Victory specific inventory had grown, and found the lowers and hardware kit for a very cheap, approx $90, including shipping! I ordered them and they came extremely fast. The lowers look very very good. I got the "solar" color which is a slight tint. They look quite sporty and custom with the tint. The lowers are nice thick plastic, and look like they will last for years to come.
The mounting hardware, on the other hand, leaves a little to be desired as far as looks. They are not "triple show chromed" by any means, and the finish on the hex bolts is a little dull. I polished them up though, and bought some chrome bolts, which took an hour and $10. They now look like a whole different set of $200 mounts. Finish of the hardware aside, they are sturdy, and appear to be good quality. They will definitely get the job done of supporting the lowers, and were very easy to install.
Another problem is that the manual for installing them does not show a location specific to my bike, since it is a somewhat universal mounting kit. I am a mechanic and really don't need a manual on how to turn a wrench, but it would have been nice to see if the location they recommended was above or below the triple tree, I ended up stomping the front brake and decided I could mount them below the triple tree. It's still up in the air until I can accomplish a high speed stomp on the front brake and bottom out the shocks.
All in all, this is a great alternative to the high dealer price of lowers, and the way I look at it, I saved $200 for an item that was 300% of the price and only 10% better. They also cut down the side wind dramatically for a much more comfortable ride. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a great set of lowers, at a great price! Hope this review helps.
