The ease of mounting to the handlebars was easy as it is all one unit. It looks like a stock item on the bike and doesn't look out of place. I had to remove the gas tank to run the wiring to the battery. I am happy with the results.
If you have a cell phone or smoke a must have I had an old plastic one that looked bad this is a show piece on my bike I can light up my smoke and charge up my phone wouldnt want to be stuck brokedown with a dead battery on my phone a must have!
Super product. Quality is great. Installation was a snap. Directions were spot on. I was looking for a power product to use for my GPS and to charge my cell phone. This did the trick. The chrome fits in well. I would absolutely recommend it
If your looking for a cigarette lighter, then this isn't a terrible value. But if all you want is a Power Port, then this is a little pricey. Kuryakyn should; A# Offer this without the lighter element or B) Offer it with a USB adapter as an alternative. Having said that, it's high quality, looks good & easy to install. #especially if you already have Battery Tender pigtail installed) Instructions have it wired directly to the battery so hooking it to a switched source will complicate wiring some.
I ordered this item because I am starting to make some long range trips. I wanted to be able to have a power source on the road for my cell an GPS. This item was easy to install and looks great on my bike. Works well so far and I hope to make many more trips without any problem with my cell or GPS running out of power!
I have purchased several Kuryakyn products, and the quality of the Power Port meets Kuryakyn's high standard. The unit appears solidly constructed with a quality chrome finish. The instructions specify wiring directly to the battery which I did. That means the unit is always powered. I think a better installation would be wiring to the head lamp, which is powered only when the bike is running. Also, snaking the wires past the gas tank for the specified installation is a pain on my bike (Yamaha 1300 V-Star). If Kuryakyn could provide a plug-in for different motorcycles head lamps, that would be a great option.
"Handlebar"; either that or any other "bar" of similar diameter. For me it is the main support arm of the luggage rack, rear of the left turn signal. The flexibility of the mounting hardware allowed a nice semi-visible positioning under the bar and eminently accessible for the intended use: plug in power for my small portable air compressor for "topping off" my tires. [and, while riding, charge batteries, for whatever] Easy to adapt the mounting, what is visible is just more chrome- and very nice chrome it is- and the design & construction of the device tells me I'll have no weather or corrosion problems. Worth every cent of the seemingly (first impression) high cost.
Looks great..works great.. good quality chrome and it's heavy.. metal not plastic.... only negative is the cover feels like it's going to break off at some point in the near future.. but overall great product
One small weakness that ruins the entire longevity of this lighter.
The rubber tabs on the cover (used to open and to hold the cover on) with this lighter is small, difficult to open, and much sooner than later, it breaks off. This leads to water getting into the lighter and the inside becomes a pile of rust. A better material for the cover would be metal or a hard plastic, with a rubber gasket.
